So im thinking of breeding an Avalugg and it got me thinking.

Does this thing really NEED Sturdy? I mean, isnt the whole idea with him that he isnt supposed to get OHKO'd or killed at all if you play against physical attacks like you're supposed to?

Might i be better off with something like Own Tempo and not have to worry about Confusion and whatnot?

Sturdy is used a lot to cover for its poor special defence and to fire off mirror coats

Not to dismiss the idea, but i have a Florges and a Mega Amph to wall special attacks with.

Allowing him to take SU special attacks at all seems lik playing him wrong.

It isn't meant to wall special attacks, it's just a sure fire way of removing a special attacking threat. But, like with everything, you gotta try it out to see which best suits your purpose

Even if that was the case, you want sturdy for the situations where something unexpected happens like a surprise mixed set or critical hit. Confusion is too uncommon for own tempo to be worth it.

But then it just dies right away after the Mirror Coat/Gyro Ball, not to mention if it already took damage from something. I hadnt considered Curse + Gyro Ball yet though. Sounds bretty gewd.

I mainly ask because ive tried a Tyrantrum with a Focus Sash and he almost never gets any use out of it because hes too defensive for anything to usually kill it in one hit.

Just seems like i ought to make sure he doesnt take embers then and that hes not really worth that much with that 1 HP. If i know enough to predict him taking a special attack in order for me to use Mirror Coat, i also know enough for me to just switch his flat ass out.

But fair enough, i think ill just breed it with Sturdy and Mirror Coat and Ability Capsule if the set doesnt seem usefull to me.

You can also look at it in this way, sturdy can save your ass and your whole team if somehow you made a slip and let that garchomp get a sword dance in, it will hit you and hit like a truck and otherwise even kill you with it's powered up steel headbutt but thanks to sturdy you can avalanche it's ass good bye. Its just more handy than own tempo

own tempo might come in handy to get some free switch-in, more than that I don't know really.

Yeah, i think i see why it gets used now. Plus, with Recover it has the potencial of getting Sturdy more than once.
