I actually use Carbink regularly, its an above average tank, useful as a lead to set up stones and screens with, allowing whatever pokemon you want to come in and start setting up freely, since it will never be 1hko, even without activating sturdy (unless steel)
Safeguard is also more useful than you think If you want to render enemy pranksters useless for a few turns while you set up a fast sweeper.
Carbink's two flaws is of course, no recovery, and a shallow supportive movepool. Its only other real niche is trick room, but you could technically run a gimmicky skill swap set in doubles.
