Pic related. I don't even know to be honest. On my first playthrough of Fire Red I caught a Jigglypuff and just started training it. After using it throughout the game and finally challenging the league, I just sorta became attached to it. Thus starting the tradition of me using a normal type each gen.

I remember when I was in first grade Red and Blue came out. Like every kid in my grade, I bought Red version. One day at recess I was with my friends by the slide, and they told me about a snake in the water of the safari zone that turned into a big dragon. I loved dragons more than anything, and I went to the safari zone and found a dratini. I then trained it into a dragonite, and became king of the play ground. Dragonite is my eternal bro, and will always have one on my team.

It all started in Fire Red. When i was in Team R's hideout and all my pokes were defeated except Golbat that had very little HP left.
Then i remembered that if pokemon gets a new level he gets + HP which means giving him Rare Candy will add some HP...
and...
you can't imagine how cool it was to see Golbat evolving into Crobat during the situation where i needed so much help.

i actually had one big thread where it all was ruined by huge debates of is this story lie or not...i think it was during 2013 spring.

Yeah i also find it weird - the game probably wasn't that stupid to LOCK the evolution so Golbat will not evolve into Crobat till the needed time.
As soon as i captured first Zubat - he become my bro and won many battles so friendship level was pretty high.

I've always like frogs. Dunno why, they're just rad. We have a cattle pond that fills with water during our rainy season, becoming a makeshift pond in the desert. The local desert frogs awaken from the moisture and flock to the pond to do what frogs do, so one time hunting poliwogs I fell in face first. Nostrils full of cowpie and frogspawn soup, but I digress. The aforementioned poliwog hunting tradition snd the subsequent raising of them gave me a great love for the little buggers, so when my 6 year old self saw the Poliwag line I fell in love. I even dressed up as Poliwhirl for Halloween one year. Things got better when they got Water Absorb in Gen 3. I've used one in at least one run of each generation and my loyalty was rewarded in Gen 5. Dicking around in Wellspring Cave back in May of 2011, I forgot that you could find wild Poliwraths. Imagine my suprise when the second one I encountered was green. Needless to say, that nigga was mine. Brought it down to yellow, tossed a Net Ball and amazingly got a Critical Capture. Checked it's IV's later, and while not perfect, they are sufficient for Magnus the Poliwrath to wreck some shit, I just need to give him a Ability Capsule to give him glorious Water Absorb. He's going to be the first pokemon I transfer via Bank.

Been choosing grass types for my first play through since Red and Blue. Picked a Chikorita in Gold and loved him.

When HGSS came I out I was so excited to return to pokemon. Picked my starter got a female Chikorita.

Holy shit, she was a beast. A body slamming, Leech Seeding, Ancient Powering, Giga Draining Beast. I used a friend's TM (back when you could trade them) to teach her Giga Drain early and she became an cruel unkillable warrior-of-attrition.Once we found the leftovers... forget it. You're done.

Bro for life.

(As a side note, Mega-Venusaur is becoming this for me also. I love the slow fight).

Ever since I found Skorupi in diamond I fell in love. I'm a big fan of bug types, so when I saw Skorupi it was natural I'd like him. When he evolved I became a fan of Dark types.

As for Gen 6 I took a breeding leftover 5IV adamant sniper for my second playthrough. Once I was done I slapped a reset bag on him and ev trained him correctly.

Gave him the razor claw and now he gets crits out the ass.

This bro right here. I never played pokemon as a kid. I finally got a copy of blue version when I bought a gameboy color and a few games off of my friend several years back. I beat that and wanted to try another, so I got a DS and a used copy of platinum from another friend. He had a bunch of pokemon on it, most of which I had no Idea existed, already and this was one of them.I thought it looked pretty sweet so I took it out and tested it on the E4. It was a really high level already so naturally it 2HKO'd almost everything. Since then it has stayed my favorite pokemon. You should have seen how happy I was when I saw it got a mega.

Cinccino is just the best. I used a Skill Link one in my White 2 run and she was amazing, she ripped everything she came across to shreds. Plus, Cinccino period are just plain adorable. I always have one on my main competitive team. She's like the queen of it.

Staraptor is just about on par with Cinccino, but for kind of sentimental reasons. It's the Pokemon that made me stop just soloing the game with just my starter, when in my first run of Diamond Torterra got knocked out in the seventh gym, and somehow that little Staravia HM slave at about three-fourths the level of its opponents fought its way through the rest of that trainer's Pokemon alone. I then slapped an EXP Share on it and proceeded to tackle the rest of the gym with just that Staravia, until it evolved into Staraptor and became the centerpiece of my team that run. Even now I have one on my main team for competitive in XY.

Something about the entire Porygon family just clicks for me. I don't even like birds that much, but the Porygons have always appealed to me. I thought it was Ice-type the first time I saw it in the Pokerap. Competitively I'm still trying to get Porygon-Z to work out for me, but I'm happy Porygon2 with Eviolite has been good at least. I thought I should Masuda at least once in my Pokemon gaming and Porygon would be the appropriate choice and I finally got it after 780 eggs with the right IVs.

Lanturn is another one I love. First time I played Pokemon Stadium 2 (which was before my exposure to GSC) and saw Chinchou I immediately liked it. Caught it in Crystal later and been using Lanturn in many playthroughs in several of the future games. Lanturn performs great in battle too, even if it is an inferior Rotom-W in most of its niches.

Lanturn and Porygon-Z/Porygon2 are mainstays in my teams, I always begin team building with them in the first 2 slots.

If I had to pick three pokémon I like I'd pick Kadabra, Nidoqueen and Slaking.

The first pokémon game I owned was Crystal, and I Kadabra was and still is the only pokémon I ever raised to level 100. I realized I would never get the awesome Alakazam of my dreams but Kadabra is awesome.

Nidoqueen is just awesome looking. My favorite of the whole armored dino-type pokémon. And the only one I had that could use Ice Beam and take down the dragon gym.

And Slaking because his evolutionary line is adorable.

Flying was always my favorite type, but I could never get too much into most Flying-type Pokemon prior to Gen 6 (never enough to consider them as my "signature Pokemon", at least).

Then this awesome motherfucker comes along. I liked him as soon as I saw him when he was among the first few new Pokemon revealed.
I was afraid he'd be the "generic regional bat" who would probably get screwed over like other Flying-types, but he is actually kind of rare and is surprisingly viable competitively; saving my ass numerous times. His typing is very nice as well, protecting his frail body from the elemental types.

Also, I simply love his design. GF could've stopped at his ears, but they go the extra mile and add the little fur on his neck/torso/back.

My favorite Pokemon and bro forever.

So I was playing pokemon Sapphire, right? And I was trying to catch a shroomish, right? And then, AND THEN, from out of motherfucking nowhere, the pokemon that would become my one true bro appeared, shinier than the shiniest shine that ever shined, was this lil nigga. I ended up landing a critical hit, and got that fucker to red HP. That was the start of a beautiful friendship.

Sleepy and I made our way through the 2nd best gen, fucking up everything in his path. He is a true OG. But did I ever evolve him? Nah son, we're not doing it that way. Eventually the manly slakoth known as Sleepy made his glorious way to gen 4, and finally gen 5. He's chilling in a box with his bitches until it's bank time.

My Pokemon hero came in the form of Mawile, in Pokemon Gale of Darkness. Timid nature.

You only get so many pokemon in that game, and I hadn't really been exposed to mawile before. Before that, I pretty much razor leafed my way through Gen I and Meganium'd through Gen II.

So here I am, playing with a hyper cutter mawile that knew sing. I knew that failing to catch shadow pokemon would cause me a lot of issues, so I taught my mawile false swipe. Shocker, my Mawile died a lot, but didn't have a lot of hit points, so I gave it a Focus Sash and Hyper potioned when it got hit by a powerful attack.

Now here's what made me fall in love with my Mawile. Every time it got hit, it would fall on its face, do a push up, and jump back into battle. Adding in the text of the focus band and you get a little steel type defying all odds with it's singing and false swipe. Espeon took a back seat, and Mawile hit level 100.

I love this Mawile, and have been a fan of Mawile ever since. Soon, this legend will be migrated to X and Y.

Mawile, Timid nature (-atk +spd) no EV training. Moves False Swipe, Sing, Faint Attack and Crunch. Sadly now that I know more about natures and such than I did as a child, I can't compete in matches with my childhood best friend, but he's always going to be there to help me catch'em all.

I never had a Gameboy when they came out around the time I was in Kindergarten, but I collected the cards like a motherfucker.
I remember I got my first foil, which was a Gengar, and was attached to it.

Finally got my first Gameboy Advance SP when I turned 12, got Leafgreen and played the shit out of it.
Caught a Shiny Gastly the first Time I encountered it, and had it in my party ever since.
I Thought it was how they always looked, until I saw other colored Gastlys and knew he was special
First Slot, no Bullshit.
Though It took me a fucking year to evolve it to a Gengar because I couldn't find someone to trade with in the first place.

I carried over that same Gengar until Gen V, and waiting for Poke Bank to come out.

Almost 10 years i've had that Gengar.
No I won't fucking understand.

I actually caught a shiny Gastly as a kid, leveled it up, gengar was my favourite pokemon.
I traded it to a "friend" to evolve into Gengar, he said he wanted it now, and I traded him "fair and square".
Parents agreed that it's his now since I traded him it, and I should understand the etiquette of trading.

I've hated Gengar ever since.

Dragonite's big, cuddly, and fucking dangerous. I used it way back before multiscale and it still took hits like a champ and fucked people up right back. Extremely versatile movepool to boot.

This guy. I didn't really even like him too much at first. He just always ended up on my team during nuzlockes and I bonded hard with him. The most memorable Azumarill I owned I named Suds. He was in my emerald nuzlocke. I bonded with Suds to the point that I made sure to trade him to firered to beat the Kanto E4, transfer him to sinnoh and beat the E4, sent him on over to Johto for the E4, and then beat Unova's E4 with him. Awaiting pokebank to complete his tour.

This guy became my supreme bro after I first hatched him as a Riolu in gen 4. At first I was skeptical because i was never too fond of fighting types, but as I continued playing with him, his movepool just seemed so versatile. His steel typing kept him in play after heavy hits, and his speed and power let him take things out fast. I've kept that very first Lucario on my team since I hatched him, trading him back and forth to finish games with. Can't wait to trade him up to my Y.

Back when I started I got a copy of pokemon yellow, I was having fun up until the first gym. I want to meet the fucker who put a rock gym right after the area with bugs, flying, and normal types, and the game started you with that electric rat.
Anyway, I caught a male nidoran, it was the first one I had seen and was only level 2, man was it difficult to get him to level 5, but once I did he started to be able to handle threats all on his own. I was so proud when he smashed that onix's face in that I made him my #1, anything I got in that game I pretty much gave it to him first, he evolved twice in mount moon, and was the first pokemon I ever got to lvl 100.

I often consider trying to find a Shiny just to put the King back on my team.

That story makes me wish I had carried over the same pokemon through the years. . . fuck.
My very first charizard from pokemon red was named Casey. He was my ultimate bro. First pokemon I got to 100. I got him over to Silver years later but then I lost that silver. . .
Saw the new pokemon origins series they did for the mega evolutions and it really hit deep with me, exactly my story. Hate that he was lost forever.

There's something about Tropius that absolutely hooked me back in Hoenn. Maybe because you encounter it in my favourite area of the region near my favourite secret base location. I always struggled with Grass types and Tropius really opened my mind when it came to using new types. He was also my Flying type, and so it was always on my team.

Maybe I also love the idea of having an enormous fucking sauropod even though it's only 6ft tall following me around and keeping me company.

Even though he has his weaknesses, I love him. Hearing that it has Harvest as its HA got me pretty excited as well, but now that I'm into competitive battling I can't seem to find a set for it that really lets my old time bro shine.

Heartbroken when I saw it in 3D...

My first ever pokèmon game was fire red, grew up knowing about Cubone but never knowing I could catch one years later I pick up metro 2033 and love the shit out of it, couple months of metro I finally find a Cubone, just my luck it's a male so I name him Artyom. I chose Artyom because the both wear a mask, Artyom doesn't remember much of his mother, Cubone wears his mother's skull, both associate with the dead or dying.
When I catch one in Y I go with the same process, Level 52, four hearts and love him to death next to my female Meowstics named Alma.

She was my first pokemon on my first crystal save. I never had gameboy of my own, so being able to borrow my cousins after she got advanced was pretty much the next best thing. Me and Feraligatr had great adventure through Johto and Kanto, facing it all and conquering gyms, league and finally mt. Silver together with other good pokemon friends we had made on our way to be the very best we can be. She was my first level 100 pokemon, and naturally, totally awesome. We parted ways when I had to return the GB and game, but my team and especially she were since then one of the best pokemon related memories in my heart.

Years went by, and I forgot pokemon for a while, until my new roommate got me back by suggesting that I could buy Black since she was gonna buy White. After having good time with traveling through Unova, one day I was window shopping at videogame store and noticed cheap due being secondhand copy of SoulSilver sitting on shelf. I thought "why the hell not" and left the store with my SoulSilver, having no idea how small yet heartwarming consequences that impulse purchase could have.

I was already pretty high on my nostalgia fix, when I was once again standing there at Elm's lab, choosing starter. Remembering my old Feraligatr and her two sons I had trained, I went with Totodile. I guess I was expecting it to be male, just because I knew starters have male dominant gender ratio - yet, when I saw that he was actually she, on my first save of new Johto based game, I had this weirdest yet happy, and definitely superstitious feeling that through time and space somehow my old Feraligator had come back to me to relive our journey through Johto once again.

That SoulSilver run remains me favourite run I've ever done. I tried almost obsessively replicate rest of my crystal team, but it was all worth it, so much. At present my Feraligatr and rest or the SoulSilver team are on my Black cart, waiting for bank and new adventures at Kalos.
