There seems to be this myth in the casual community that competitive players only seem to select certain Pokemon to play with, and if someone brings in something non-meta all the predictable Smogon sets will crumble.
Except it isn't true, the reason Pokemon are OU is because they're used frequently, and that usually means they're able to take on a wide variety of threats or counter a common threat. If a Pokemon can significantly disrupt the meta, then the first people to find out and maximize its potential will be Smogon because that's what they're always trying to do.
