Cut all of the ones that need Rain support. That shit is done. Quagsire is great for soaking boosted hits, Swampert needs turns for Curse, Jellicent doesn't really have a role as a spinblocker since Defog got buffed, and Relicanth has always been shit.

Vaporeon, Gastrodon, and Slowbro are the best you can do right now if you really don't want to use Rotom-W.

Jellicent is still good, you just have to watch out for Gengar. Tentacruel is good if you need a Spin/TSpike setter

I run Leech Seed/Giga Drain/Toxic/Synthesis. IIRC, most people go Sludge Bomb over Toxic.

Not a particularly defensive Water type, but has enough bulk to make use of defensive sets. I personally like using a Waterfall, Dragon Tail, Rest and Sleep Talk set with Leftovers.

No. But there is a pretty clear "best" for a lot of things. Rotom-W is the best "bulky water". You use a different poke if you
a) Don't need a bulky water type
b) Don't care about winning and just don't want to use Rotom-W
c) Have a specific niche that something else fills better

That should work, the only difference with mine is I have Toxic on it instead of Calm Mind (to take out stallers like Quagsire/Gastrodon who it wouldn't really be able to damage normally).

This shit makes me think constantly since I do mono-water. I love Ludicolo but his abilities just dropped since Gen5. I keep thinking of getting rid of Politoed and Kingdra entirely because of the damn rain.

Unfortunately, Rotom-W is your only choice if you want to win consistently.

The only others you should consider are Slowbro (if Rotom-W gets worn down too easily), Quagsire (if your team has a problem with boosting physical sweepers), or Jellicent (if your team desperately needs a Water immunity or a spinblocker).

Everything else are just worse versions of that fucking washing machine. Don't blame Smogon, blame Game Freak.
