Not the same guy, but I do still think that the concept of Legendaries who can control Time and Space, yet are able to be captured and left inside a PC for all eternity, was a bit over the top. Such Pokemon would be much, much more mythical, and not pushovers who get controlled by one guy holding a necklace.

I kinda have to agree with this, even though I really enjoyed playing through them the first time.

Gen III had a lot of great Pokémon but that's really all there is.
The sprites, especially the overworld ones, look so fucking out of place and completely different than every other Pokémon game.

The water routes really didn't annoy me at all though and I can't remember disliking the music either.

I know it's not really an unpopular opinion but I wish GF would stop using the 8 badges/Evil team/E4 storyline for at least one main game.

Just let us travel around in the world with some quests and challenges and let us battle against legendaries and don't force us to catch them.

Gen 1 is the worst gen, with many clunky and boring designs, repeated cries (See Omanyte and Machop) broken mechanics, and no Gym Leader buildup. The only way you would get exited for fighting any of the Gym Leaders is if you had seen them in the Anime, because they didn't even introduce themselves or have any sort of personality besides that. FireRed/LeafGreen tried to remedy this, but while it was good, it was still not as good as other generations.

You're missing the point when people say this. In other gens, you'd go everywhere until you learned where you're supposed to go, which gives it the feel that you're on an adventure exploring everything. Unova didn't allow you to do that.

You can argue how RS had Wallace be the 8th gym leader and you already knew him, but if you count only Emerald's storyline, getting there and not seeing Steven was really disappointing. Felt out of place.

I think Diamond and Pearl were the best games relative to the time they were released.

Adding online content gave Pokemon infinite replay value, and even though each new generation improves on the last, no new gen will ever do so by such a wide margin as Gen 4 did.

I also think 493 was a perfect amount and I would have been completely content if they stopped creating new Pokemon after Arceus.

I still like 99% of Pokemon, old and new.
The only Pokemon I dislike are Lucario and Umbreon for being edgy AND furry simutaneously.

The pokémondesign truly sucks in later gens. Especially 4 and 5. 6 improved, but that's probably because it introduced like half as much new Pokémon as the previous 2.

I also very rarely use any Pokémon from gen 3 or forward. I just prefer the classic, simple designs.

I fucking miss actual rivals. You know, good'ol Cockass from Silver was, well, a cockass. But he was my adversary, he showed up when it was least convenient, when I least expected it, with a powerful ass team of pokemon, more powerful than the Gym Leader I had just faced usually, and we went at it like nuts. If you lost, it was shameful as shit, but if you won it felt so good.

Now there are no rivals, just 'friends'. Lose to them and you'll get a pat on the back followed by 'KAWAII UGUUU YOU CAN DO IT :DDD' and if you beat them there's no real satisfaction. Unless you're beating that fat piece of shit Tierno. Fuck that loser.

IMO, Barry was an awesome rival because--to me, at least--he had an actual competitive drive to be better (Probably because his dad's a Frontier Brain). His personality is really hit or miss; personally, I love it.

Out of all the Gens I played...I can never bring myself to replaying HGSS as much as the others as well as those two having IMO the least amount of fun in them.Pokemon walking with you is overrated a tad bit here as well.

Blue and Silver may be your favorite rivals, but they are not the best. People only say this cause we got the same friendly-like rivals for the past 4 gens. In another world, if we had friendly rivals 1st and then the more aggressive rivals later, The majority would probably cry for the friendly rivals to come back.

I agree. Lucario is shitty Sonic OC stolen from some kid's DA page, I mean it is right there. If you showed it to somebody unfamiliar with Lucario, alongside one of those character descriptions, they would buy it instantly. Had the design been toned down it wouldn't have been so bad. Maybe lose the spikes and the black, and expand the light tan color on it a bit, and it'd be fine. Zangoose is just edgy as fuck and stupid looking to boot. Coupled with the fact that he has no Evos to make him interesting (To me, anyways) I gave him an immediate pass. Zoroark is in the exact same boat as Lucario, though I can't see any real ways to improve it's design.

I think N was intended as the main character of Gen 5, considering he's the one the storyline goes about, and gets actual development. Also, he cameoed as a misterious hero in B2W2, where neither Hilbert nor Hilda appeared. I think HIlbert and Hilda were there to fill the traditional player character role, but N was the MC of the story.

People care more about what others think about them than their own opinions. Happens a lot in most fanbases and specially in the pokemon fanbase (why do you think pokespe gets that much hate?). Hence, popular things het hate (although /vp/ tends to like popular things too).

As for the 6th gen rivals, I feel that Serena COULD have been great if she was more aggressive towards you as a rival with a fierce team instead of Meowstic and (depending on your starter) Flareon and Altaria to a certain extent. The others should have been battled more often as well. I can't count all the times where the 3 could have battled you before The Rival Marathon on the bridge.

Rivals are one of the biggest things I look forward to in a Pokemon game and I felt really disappointed in X & Y's rivals in terms of quality and quantity of battles shared among them

Gen III is the worst region in my opinion. I loved it when R/S/E came out, but upon replaying it years later I didn't enjoy them as I enjoy with all the other games. I did it some months ago and it felt too short and no, the Battle Frontier is not "the best post-game ever", it was frustrating, repetitive and boring, at least in Sinnoh you had areas you could explore. My biggest problem with III though is the graphic department, it looks a bit "flat" and it doesn't have neither the retro-charm of I/II nor the more immersive-simil 3D graphics of the older gens, also, I don't like water routes. At least I like many Gen III pokes.
I feel this way about FR/LG too because of the graphics, they can't compare to the charm RBY had, which is a bit of a shame because I like the Sevii Islands concept.
On the other hand, I loved Gen II/HGSS/BW2 postgames because you had another region to explore and I'd rather have an unfinished Kanto (but it was this way because they hadn't the time to implement all the locations, because beta locations exist if you look within the game, such as the Cinnabar Lab) than a Frontier. Gen II Kanto felt "comfy" to me because of this, such as the Mt. Moon Square.

It's design and movepool are clearly indicating one of those secondary typings but it feels like the intern just forgot to attach it and they had to release the game the next day.

Gen 5 was the worst generation.

Smogon is bad because it makes competitive kiddies believe that if they don't copypaste they'll lose. It doesn't allow people to think.

I rarely breed because I'm too autistic to have pokemon born just to sit in the PC. So I basically gen my competitive teams but also EV train my bros to reach they max potential. Every pokemon in my PC sees usage.

I miss new 3rd stage/alternate route evolutions. Gen II gave us Steelix and Scizor. Gen III Gen IV gave us some cool ones like Rhyperior, Electivire, Yanmega, Froslass, Weavile, Honchkrow, and Magnezone. Sure it was cool in Gen V when it was Gen V dex only, but we could have easily gotten 10-20 new pokemon on evolutions alone for relatively unused or one-off pokemon.

I think megas are absolute shit and a waste of effort and creative design that could've gone into creating more interesting designs that we have missed out on. They were created to appeal to 12 year olds and autistic neckbeards in general who would rather see spikes and streamers attached to their bros and nostalgic childhood icons than see actual creative progression.

And then you realize you get small, weird boosts for doing Amie like increased crit rate but it still never feels worthwhile.

Electric Tale of Pikachu is a seriously underrated manga

Smogon is a great website and most of the people who bash on it either don't know what they're talking about or are trolling.

Kanto is the best region due to the amount of freedom you get in comparison to other regions.

Competitive battling on cartridges is a serious waste of time and money if you aren't playing niche metagames like triple battles.

Ruby/Sapphire were the start of Gamefreak half-assing first versions.

The PMD games are pretty mediocre, especially the stories. The only good ones are the bonus chapters in Sky and the story in Gates, and they still aren't anything special.

The main story to Time/Darkness/Sky legitimately infuriates me on replays because of some of the stupid shit that goes down.

I think you might be my double with an opinion like that. I could not stand the partner, Wigglytuff guild (episodes aside) and Team Skull, and the last third does not make up for the ass-garbage first third. Gates's story is actually not half bad though, due to its characters actually being decent and the plot twists less obvious.

Masuda stated they've always tried to change the formula, but they feel it would make the game harder for newcomers because that's the best way to learn about type effectiveness. Grass/Fire/Water is staple because of how obvious are the weaknesses and resistances among each. Credit should go to them for actually trying this gen (and gen 4) to do something different (imho Infernape being Fire/Fighting was accidental, but Emboar was pure bullshit).

it "making sense" doesn't mean i have to like it, particularly when it's so boring and overused. i will grant that i used the wrong word to describe it, but it's not like pokesp doesn't try to be dark or anything - not that i inherently have a problem with that. furthermore, even if for children, it's definitely not "kiddy" if it clearly shows things like pokemon being sliced in half and such.
