What's so bad about using Thunderbolt against Malamar? Especially if an electric type is using it? Not everyone carries bug or fairy moves on everything.

It's the same kind of retardation as people who laugh at fire moves being used against Florges thinking it's always because of type confusion. When you don't have a super effective move, neutral damage is most likely the best option.
