hey /vp/ you guys have always been nice and helpful to me. my friend and i want to try a go at ranked double battles in advice or starter tips maybe you'd like to give. also advice on which pokemon have good synergy together

Doubles are shit,don't bother with them. Stick to singles and if you really need something exotic try triples.

welcome to the wonderful world of doubles OP.
i would recomend lead with something taht can fake out, that buys time for a slower pokemon to set up or do another thing, i usually lead with mega medicham/empoleon, i fake out the fastest pokemon then i icy wind with empoleon so i can cripple the other pokemon speed, you will see a lot of shitty strategies like mat block greninja on battle spot or whimsicott/terrakion, victini/spinda on showdown but when you learn to counter them their "strategy" falls appart and then it will be easy for you, make sure to pack pokemon with moves that can hit both targets, trick room abomasnow rapes shit there let me tell you, and keep on eye on crazy japs with cresselias.

oh, and if you see somebody leading with smeargle, kill it as fast as you can or bring somebody with magic bounce quick, because in doubles you lead with smeargle for ONE ONLY REASON

the best trick room setters are slowbro or slowking beacuse oblibious, you can lead with meowstic and slowbro, meowstic can fake out the opponent that threatens slowbro and then you can set you trick room safely, if they bring a pokemon that can fake out like hitmontop or ambipom, they will usually hit slowbro, so use quick guard on meowstic instead
