They're still RPGs with the same battle engine as Gen 3, with a few added moves and the Snag mechanic. Hell, they can TRADE with gen 3. How exactly are they "very different" besides not being the beat-the-gym-leaders story and having only Double Battles?

I would play the hell out of one, especially if its story was on the level of Colosseum but its mechanics were on the level of Gale of Darkness. Maybe give Shadow Pokémon a multiplicative Attack/Special Attack boost that diminishes as they unlock their moves.

Because Nintendo wants to run the Wii U into the ground for some reason. That's why there are only like four good games for it, shitty online capabilities, fucking FRIEND CODES, and gimmicks out the ass.

I've been saying Nintendo should do a Final Fantasy-style RPG spinoff where you capture and train pokemon, but in a JRPG setting where you save the world, temples, magic macguffins, etc. It'd certainly make for a delicious refresh of the same old rehash. Hell, even another Colosseum would be a nice change of pace

The friend system for Wii U is an actually competent one. You have a username, you can send a friend request to someone and they'll see the request, and you can private-message people. Call of Duty: Ghosts (yes it's shit) uses voice chat.

The "wild Pokemon" spots in XD were a waste of fucking memory space on the disc. Three Pokemon per spot, with three spots to find wild Pokemon. That's a grand total of NINE different species to catch. Absolutely useless.

Because they wanted to give you the illusion of not forcing certain pokemon on you. Everyone pretty much has the same team in Colo and XD because of the order you get the pokemon in, they didn't want to change that.

That said, Pokespots were much better than shit like Honey Trees in the main games. God knows why they didn't make Honey Trees better when they had a perfect example done by Genius Sonority.

They could make a few key differences if they want to make them separate and encourage people to buy both

Console version can be ATB while handheld can be turn based
Console could have companions making wild battles and villianous teams double or triple battle while handheld is mainly a single person adventure

Those 2 alone while keeping the main aspects like 8 gyms and e4 could easily seperate them just enough to have people still wanting both versions

This gen made the novelty of seeing the pokes in 3D now purposeless. It exists anyway. The only remaining reason would be to have an expert level challenge, and I assumed the battle facilities to have replaced that role. True, I know Revolution existed despite this, but nobody liked Revolution to begin with.
