Are humans in the pokemon universe ridiculously strong and hardy? I mean a ten year old kid regularly survives furnace-temperature flames from pokemon, 10 000+ volt shocks, freezing winds, everything.

Are they giants? Is the gravity less strong in their universe? Insects are fucking huge, it might explain a few things.

Or is all just handwaved because it's a game/animu and I am reading too much into it.
