Going out of your way to make the game harder does not justify the game being too easy.
You could set a rule for yourself that you will play super mario 2 without jumping, but that won't mean the game is hard.

My point is that people who complain about how the game is too easy make it too easy for themselves. In a perfect world the Pokemon games would have a higher difficulty bar by default, but alas that isn't the case.

I'm not excusing Game Freak, I'm just saying to work with what we've got. And frankly it doesn't bother me since I've been doing the above since Generation 4. Adorable pre-evos only, SET battle, no EXP Share, no items during battle. Makes for gud times.

The game is too easy. Using outside factors to make it more difficult with artificial bullshit isn't exactly a proper approach.
You could limit yourself to only using pokemon under lv 10 and the game would be harder. You could limit yourself to only using a weedle and the game would be harder. Imposing random bullshit makes the game harder, because it breaks the game.
You might as well use cheats on a game like ninja gaiden and claim that the game is easy.

I'm not suggesting anything that extreme. At the VERY least just change it to SET battle style, and don't use OU: The Team: The Movie: The Experience, and perhaps put off evolving your Mons for a few levels more.

I played with exp share on because I didn't know how broken it was. And since the default allowed for auto switching I played with that too.
If bank is ever released I'd like to replay through the game with both of those things off just to see how much of a difference it is.
But it's not like you can play through the game for the first time with OU the experience. Most of that stuff, if not all of it is only available in post game.

What doesn't it have to do with what we're talking about? I'll say it one more time: people use top tier Pokemon with top tier moves, abilities, stats, etc, then complain about how it's too easy. If you want it to be harder, make it harder. I'm not excusing Game Freak and they SHOULD definitely make it harder, but we work with what we've got.

Greninja without protean is by no means special. The same is true of a non mega mom and a non priority fire bird.
You make it sound like people should not have used talon flame because it made the game to easy even though they not only didnt have gale wings, but didn't know about it.

and you can't get a choice band until post game

and you can't spam priority banded brave birds or priority roosts or what have you

what's your point? It's still a good mon in a playthrough but it's by no means as powerful or as broken as it is with gale wings.

It was still too fucking easy even did a Nuzlocke only turning on exp share after 8th gym for grinding and it was still too easy compared to other games

Face it this was the worst game in terms of difficulty even by Pokemons already low standard

I'm guessing this is your first game since forever or gen 1/2

I Nuzlocked all regions and gen XY is the easiest without exp share
Maybe the first time it would be a slight challenge because of not knowing fairy strength/weakness yet and the new pokes typing but if you have knowledge while running through it's easy as fuck

Nuzlocked twice, first time with exp share I lost 30 mons because I had no idea what to expect, 2nd time I lost 5 which is the smallest amount I've ever lost
Even with arbitrary rules XY is pretty easy

ps OP a mon's success in competitive doesn't transfer to it being good in the main story. Talonflame and Greninja are mediocre without their HAs.

I purposely disabled exp share and set it to set (always do set for every game) and it was still very easy. It IS a kids game though.

Pretty much this, I wasn't going to at first but I kept my starters because I thought it would be harder and I would need them. The games been a breeze so far, a few deaths near the beginning but now I'm at a point where it doesn't look like anything will ever die again.

I think the battles were just too easy. I liked the EXP share because it didn't make the game grinding forever so you can get enough levels to fight the gym leader. Sure, you can argue that it was the entire point of being a trainer, to train, but I think they underestimated just how strong the boosts were. I would have liked the enemies to have scaled better as the story progresses, and maybe equip the leaders with some unique sets that pose a challenge to the player. Not necessarily that smogonsword SD set, but something that catches you off guard. A lot of the pokemon gym leaders and elite 4 had some uninspired, generic attack sets, and while those aren't bad they could have certainly put more effort into it.

however a post game with gym leaders rechallenge where they scale their pokemons up to using legendaries and perfect IV pokemons would be neat, kinda like what emerald did
