Would you guys be disappointing if Mega evolution never returned after this gen? If the existing mega evolutions were just made into normal evos or forms or were just retconned entirely?

A lil' bit. Some of the Mega Evos give some really interesting strategies and also lend themselves well to mind games.

On the flipside, I don't have to worry too much about a Mega Evo potentially ruining a mon I already liked design wise.

Megas give something for new players to build a team around, let you change a mon's abilities and stats mid-battle, and open up new design space while dodging some of the old power creep.

Getting rid of Megas would be a colossal step backwards.
