no, the stats will readjust so it's the same as if it had evolved earlier

For a long time I thought this was the case, but apparantly, it's not.

Apparantly they have this thing called evolution bonus or something, the longer you wait, the bigger the bonus will be, which sounds cool, but it actually means shit, because the size of the bonus actually just equalizes what your pokemons strength would have been if was fully evolved at that level.

I always used to believe something along those lines. In every playthrough of gen 2 I would train my scyther up to near max level and then make it into a scizor cause I thought it would keep the huge amount of speed scyther had. It didn't help that at level 100 scizor outsped every npc mon though...

the only benefit to evolving later on is that I believe some pokemon learn moves post evolution level, that they wouldn't learn normally by evolviing. could be wrong.

When evolving, it goes from one set of base stats to another. I think whatever EVs you have are retained, but now they're being applied to a different set of base stats.
