you know, it's kinda funny - i ended up with multiple shiny gastlies over the course of playing the various games just because of ev training.

I also got some shiny shuppets and a litwick for the same reason.

more than 3/4 of my shiny encounters have been ghosts

Throughout all my years of playing, I've never encountered a shiny ;__; so I started MMing a few days ago after reading so many shiny stories. 7 boxes in and no luck.
To complete the National Dex, do I have to catch everything or just have it seen? Any tips on how to go about it?

You have to have owned it. You can always use Wi-Fi General, or jew people on the GTS. You don't have to have the event Pokemon.

You cannot really see a bankmon for National Dex, so...
