So Breeding for competitive pokemon new guy here.

I just wanted to ask a few questions since I have no clue what I'm doing.

- saw some gfaqs guide about "Guide to breeding pokemon with Perfect or near-Perfect IVs ver 1.1" and "Basic Guide for Super Training EV's - Original". are these guides any good or is it lolgamefaqs?

also I recently got a "perfect IV" shiny lv.100 JPN Ditto that was genned/cloned/etc.

- the Ditto doesn't have the blue pentagon, so apparently that's the result of the clone? or just not being caught in Kalos? is there any negatives to using this cloned Ditto? like being banned from competitive battling or using the pokebank or anything?

- with this perfect 6iv Ditto does that mean that I no longer require a Ditto safari to catch other Dittos with different natures as the gamefaqsguide says?

I guess that's it for questions right? unless there's anything you guys think I need to know based on whether those gfaq guides are good or not.

well, in theory youre going to have the destiny knot on your ditto which will pass 5 of the ditto's ivs (randomly chosen) onto the offspring, so if thats the case you will still need the pokemon youre breeding with the appropriate nature, in the daycare with the ditto. you could get lucky catching pokemon in the wild but i have a ditto of every nature sitting in my PC and a 6iv ditto.

Basically, think of pokemon you want to breed, grab one, breed it with a ditto that has the nature you want on your baby, have ditto hold everstone, hatch egg, take your desired pokemon (now with the correct nature) give it an everstone and put it with the 6iv ditto holding a destiny knot, then you breed, go the judge to check IVs, and change out the non-ditto parent with better IV pokemon as you go

If you get a mon you want with the nature you want, you dont need to get more dittos, give a destiny knot to ditto and everstone to the nature

correct, everstone passes on the nature of whatever pokemon is holding it, so everstone and destiny knot are the ways you manipulate the offspring

and with the IV checker any stat that "cant be beat" is max iv, if you have pokemiles you could also get enough rare candies to level him to 30 and pop the stats in an IV calculator

hmmm? I thought Rare candies were frowned upon for some reason. not sure what that reason was but I always assumed it having to do with differences between leveling that way or through normal combat.

so I assume the IV calculator and popping rare candies is an alternate way to check the IVs?

I guess another question is, when I finally get the new baby future champ I want, what happens next?

do I just religiously spend all my time Super Training it in whatever it's optimal stats are until the bar is completely full and I can't super train it anymore?

yeah with the rare candies you can hatch an egg, save, level up, check ivs, soft reset so its back at lvl 1. Each stat maxes out at, 252evs (think its 252 now but they tell you when the stat cant go higher anyway) so obviously your ev spread will be dependent on your pokemon, its nature, what set youre running, etc. Two ways to ev train, option one is super training, which is fucking tedious, but effective, option two is get an oddish with sweet scent, a pokemon with surf and ev train with hordes, if you google "ev training pokemon xy" theres a list of what hordes are where and what evs they give, this method is way faster, especially if you have the power items from the battle maison, which increase EV gains in a particular stat, the drawback is that you cant fully train your pokemon before leveling it, i find that if you start EV training with hordes at lvl1 your pokemon will be around 14-18 when its fully trained

ok so EVs are essentially the stat numbers and the +X (x = whatever number) that you receive when you level up.

seems like the only difference between Horde EVs and Super Training is the speed yeah? so essentially Super Training could be better since you can directly control each individual EV you want to up, it's just more time consuming.

this last bit has me a bit confused so hopefully you'll be patient with me here.

so that drawback was for the Super Training? or is a pokemon fully trained when that Super Training bar is up?

with that said it seems that technically you can have your pokemon "fully trained" at lvl1 if you Super Train them yes? and that apparently you don't need your pokemon at max cap to be fully trained. This seems a bit confusing to me though since your pokemon are still going to gain stat points when they level up no? so what does it mean when your pokemon is fully trained? does that mean that afterwards I can just rare candy them or grind random pokemon with them to level them up to 100 with no problem or something?

The Friend Safari Ditto are useful for getting Ditto with various natures.
You use the Ditto with the nature you want and breed it with the 'mon you want. Everstone the Ditto as an Everstone passes down the nature.

Now that you have the 'mon you want with the nature you want, give that the Everstone. Give the 6IV Ditto a Destiny Knot.

Destiny Knot passes down 5 random IVs from either parents down to the egg.

Keep breeding till the offspring has better IVs, then switch that 'mon with the one in the daycare as this will increase chances of max IVs being passed down.

Just keep going till the offspring has the max IVs you want.

Egg moves and HA should be taken care of before you start breeding.

do EGG moves really matter though? aren't I leveling that pokemon to lvl.50 or 100 anyways? wouldn't using heart scales and TMS help in giving the moves I want on the pokemon?

as for Hidden Ability, I assume Hidden Abilities are "rare" abilities you can get on your pokemon, but can see in their summary if you check in your party right?

specifically I'm doing all of these questions for my first PERFECT competitive pokemon which I want to be a Vaporeon.

so I caught a MODEST Ditto (for the -atk + sp.atk) and going to do all this so I can end up with a perfect IV MODEST Vaporeon which I guess I Super Train in Sp.Atk and Def and Sp.Deg?

Egg moves are moves that can ONLY be obtained through breeding. There are other moves that are passed down to the child when breeding but these aren't technically "egg" moves.

Let me simplify op. Catch ralts of different natures with synchronize off friend safari.
Stick those into your party as leader. Go hunting and you'll have a higher chance of finding a Pokemon with the nature you want(even if your ralts died). If you want ability too, stick another ralts with trace as your second Pokemon and you'll find the Pokemon with the ability and nature you want in no time (2ivs or more if you use friend safari)
Once you find the Pokemon with the nature and ability you want, stick it in the daycare with an everstone(btw if you want it to have the same pokeball as the parent I recommend catching a female Pokemon as all the offspring will have the same pokeball). Then stick a 6iv ditto with a destiny knot and let them breed. Once your offspring has all the correct abilities and nature and with more perfect ivs than the parent switch them out and give the everstone to the child then breed again until you have your perfect iv, nature, ability, and gender (or shinyness if you're autistic). Look it up. It doesn't give you a random ability. It gives you the one next in line for the ability you already have on your eevee

Well if the Pokemon has the hidden ability, then the evolution will have the hidden ability. That would be one of the abilities next in line following the hidden ability line. Common ability lines each go their own way. Some giving the evolution the same ability as its pre-evolution

wish there was a central information page like that image in this thread that was recently posted, but with the rest of this information presented.

seems like there's a ton of research and digging needed to be made if you don't want to screw up your pokemon, and I'm someone who doesn't want a single mistake in my pokemon (if possible) so I can have a decent team I can love and do battle with.

Egg moves are special moves that can be bread via breeding. If one of the parents knows an egg move the egg can learn, then the egg will know that egg move when it hatches.
Egg moves can be relearned so don't worry if the 'mon deletes it while in daycare.

Hidden Abilities are abilities that cannot be found on normal wild Pokemon. A Pokemon in a horde battle has a chance of having its HA though. Friend Safari mon have a chance of having their HA as well.

Okay so now that you have a Modest Ditto:
Give Everstone to Ditto to pass down Modest nature.
You'll now have a Modest Eevee
Give Everstone to the Eevee and Destiny Knot to the 6IV Ditto
Keep on breeding till the egg has an IV spread of 31/xx/31/31/31/31
Make sure to switch in Eevees with good IVs with the Eevee in the daycare to increase max IV passing down

Wait wait wait, do you know how to check for IVs?

Go to Kiloude City and talk to the ace trainer lookin guy. He will list a bunch of stats and if he ends with they simply can't be beat then they are your stats with 31
