You mean the new pokemons from gen 6, or kalos originated shiny mons?

I can see how the autism of some would only allow them to trade for pentagon approved shiny after a throughout investigation of your involvement with instacheck. I know a guy who does that.

Can you use non-pentagon pokemon in online battles? If not, I reckon we might get a lot of event pokemon offered for pentagon 5IV's, which is nice (if it wasn't for the fact I can just gen them myself)

I don't see why not. I've faced people with Heatran and Azelf before, so I think you can. The only restriction is from certain tournaments.

aside from trading the stone to a friend, what other ways can i either keep it or get a new one

I really wish rating battles didn't allow non-pentagon. Not because muh 6IV shinies, but because fuck Stealth Rock's distribution in Gen 5. And Fuck the genies and Terrakion and Heatran.

Stealth Rock isn't really as potent in 3v3, unless the enemy is spamming Roar or something trying to get residual damage.
