"I've seen them on the GTS" isn't really a thing. I could put up a Snivy right now and write "CONTRARY 6IV" and of course it doesn't have any of that. Hell, going by GTS descriptions, I've seen 7IV Dittos.

No, they were never released, attempted to send over a Snivy with everything legal but Contrary and it wouldn't make it through, that was only the first Japanese release, they really did make the hack checks a tad better in the meanwhile.

Not sure about the Pokéball, but unreleased Dream World abilities (even if they make it through) are blocked from being traded or used in battles, so you'll never have to encounter one aside from someone posting a pic on /vp/

Not entirely. I don't know how Poketransfer check the legality of Pokes, but I got a Chlorophyl Venusaur through it some days ago. And an Adaptability Crawdaunt too.

Maybe if you try to transfer pokes that in gen 6 have an ability that they couldn't have in gen 5 they pass?

Some other things don't pass even if they're legal in XY, like bred Pokes with a ball different than Pokeball.

Just search for "any" Pokemon on pokecheck and look for inspiration.

I found some interesting mons that way, like Cradily, shiny Chandelure, shiny Flygon, shiny Whimsicott (beautiful in 3D graphics), and others that I don't remember now.

That's a common mistake, but the met location for non-bred transferred Pokémon is always Pokétransfer. The in-game location displayed depends on which game it came from (so Hoenn for RSE, Kanto for FRLG, etc.) but they all have the same location index number which is labeled as Pokétransfer in Pokégen.

So I've been trying to get pokegen to work, but the DS doesn't seem to be capable of connecting to my internet here.
Neither does the 3DS when emulating a DS connection.
Anyone know if there's a way to use internet on a gen5/4 game cart using the superior 3DS connection? There's no way I'm gonna gonna be able to change my router to WEP (the only encryption method I know works) anytime soon.

It doesn't happen Gen 4 to 5, only directly from a .pkm to Gen 5 to the in-game GTS. You get one of those Premier Ribbons on it so it's marked as hacked.

I actually change my Trainer Name, Trainer ID, and Secret ID. It's how I've nicknamed my Meloetta and other events

No worries about trash bytes or anything since the game is nicknaming it for you

First right lick on one of the empty field on the main menu and select 'Set'.
Its sprite should now appear there.

Now go to the Code Generator and tick 'Selected Pokémon' and generate the code.

One thing though, if you do it like this, the Pokémon will appear in the spot you used Set earlier so make sure it's an empty spot in your box or team.

welp, i just confirmed that even with the correct SID, the shiny one wont go through.. if i remember correctly, that shiny wasnt supposed to happen, and it was a flaw in the game programming. so i can see why the filter sees it as a locked shiny.

I'm reading up on Pokegen, and the one thing that I've been unable to find much information on is the Trainer ID.

Do I need to generate trash bytes for the Trainer ID? If so, how do I do this? Pokegen says that escape sequences portraying all eight values aren't displayed, which makes me think the rules differ from nicknames.

Are there any guidelines to generating a secret ID that matches the OT and trainer ID, or will putting in anything work?

OT works the same as nicknaming. gotta fill all 8 chars, so use \FFFF as the first trashbyte and fill with \0000 and then close with \FFFF
As far as matching ID/SID I've been searching high and low for an algorithm that calculates that.. I know the ID is most likely generated by RNG, but one source said so is the SID. So idk how that even works since some comobos are invalid. Best advice I've seen was to use those RNG programs with the 'Pandoras box' function to find pairs.

I made a pokemon and all the flags checked out on pokecheck, but it had exactly 11 characters in it's nickname so I couldn't add \FFFF to the end

when I sent to my black version it had 0 HP and no nickname wtf

Limit is 10 characters, the name disappears or gets corrupted if you use 11. And the 0 HP thing is because it's in PC format and it went to your party. Fix the nickname and next time you send it make sure your party is full so it goes to your PC (or you can just box it after you receive it to fix the HP).
