>>17895184It will be interesting to see the knock-on effect that banning certain Megas long-term will have.
The "one Mega per team" rule implemented by GameFreak was obviously their attempt at balancing the concept, however it's equally obvious that it didn't work; Some Megas, like Blaziken and Kangaskhan, were so objectively good that it wasn't just "worth it" to use up your Mega slot on them, it was actually more profitable than any other choice. Mega Lucario is probably the last such Mega.
But once these guys are gone, people will still have to choose a Mega, and it will be interesting to see whether GF's balancing actually starts to work (with a wide variety of Megas seeing use and no single choice being "the best"), of if the banishment of the top echelon of equally powerful Megas will largely just kill the Mega scene, with only one or two ever seeing regular use, and actually leading to MORE centralization.
For example, with Blaziken/Lucario/Gengar/Kanga/Lucario in the pool, that's five incredibly powerful Pokemon and none of them is clearly better than any other - they're all good at what they do. Ban them out and suddenly we might be looking at a scenario where the only OU-viable Megas are Charizard and Pinsir... meaning those two could reach Gen 4 Garchomp levels of use.
So which is better? A varied game of Super-Duper Hyper Offense where there are a variety of atomic bombs available and lots of different ways to build around them, or a regular old Hyper Offense where everyone uses either Charizard or Pinsir?
