Holy shit guys, do you WANT the Pokemon to escape? B is for cancelling stuff, and this applies to catching Pokemon too. When you press Down, you're trying to keep the ball down (=keep the Pokemon inside there) whereas pressing Up will only encourage the Pokemon to escape. In order to successfully catch a Pokemon, you have to do either of these:
>Hold A + Down
>Hold Down and keep tapping A
