>>17927813I really liked the Gen 2 rival character. He was a bit of a prick in the beginning but started to change as you progressed. He was still competitive with you but he grew as a person too. I genuinely wanted to see more of him in that game.
I thought rival from BW2 was also well done, although he seemed more like a friend than a rival. Gen 3 & 4 I didn't care for at all. They were just your friends and didn't seem to compete with you at all.
Gen 1 didn't do much growing as a character and was a huge dick the whole time but I still thought he was okay. I was pretty young so I didn't really look for story or character development when I played those games.
