Point-buy has been tried in the past, it sucks. You end up building horribly lopsided teams to try and optimize it, it's not going to make everything viable like idiots are thinking.

From what i've seen you can still make a fairly standard OU team if you wanted to.
But if you want to use something that has a lot more power like Blaziken, that's when your team will take a bit of a tole. But most teams I've seen have been pretty well built.

I like that honestly. This will be a nice refreshing meta for me, away from the smogon tier system. Not that I have anything against smogon, it's just nice to pay something else.

Although I can see underused walls like Slowbro and Amoongus coming into play a lot to make room for really powerful sweepers.
But it's only in beta right now, so the points for things will definitely change in the future. I'm interested to see how this meta will work out.

I really like their dex, but that's about it.
The point system is retarded and won't make anything more viable than before. Quite the opposite. You can easily make a Ubers team with less than 6 pokemon to completely destroy weaker pokemon, so the metagame will be skewered into maximizing the efficiency of the strongest threats and then it will either stagnate in a Ubers like tier where everything else is nonviable or the biggest threats will get their points so high that the meta will become basically a OU or UU.
I'm certain that low tiered poemon will never become any better with this system.

Said this in an earlier advertisement thread.

Absolute garbage. People have been trying to dethrone Showdown and Smogon for awhile, and no one has come close. There's a reason why the tier system works so well. Giving players the ability to use an Uber, two OU, and three shitmons won't make competitive battling more exciting, because Pokemon is an absolute mess of balance issues without rigid banlists.

The Karenfags and jackasses that use ubers on Wifi will love it, but it gets a resounding "meh" from me.

Not even they'll like it once it's out. They'll spend 5 minutes trying to make a team that fits, realize they can't do exactly what they want, and quit. Or if they do get lucky enough to find something that fits first try, they'll just their asses kicked by an optimized team and then they'll quit.

Basically the only people who will enjoy this are the people who like weird convoluted variant metagames specifically for their jankiness. And they're already playing on alternative Showdown servers, and posting on Smogon's Other Metagames subforum.

There is a reason you are not allowed to use a single Ubers on a OU team, going by tiers. They will simply destroy everything in front of them. A team with a Xerneas and five of the worst shitmons vs a team of RU has a gigantic advantage.

Then you have the exact same thing. Try putting a OU team vs a RU team. Even a single OU mon in a UU team vs a UU team already gives you the upper hand. You keep doing that and you get the tier system again.

You are assuming that one team only has mons from one tier. It'd be set up so there's more than just NU, RU, UU, and OU.

There'd be like 10 or 12 tiers that you'd be sorted into based on the point value of the team. This way a team of JUST OU pokemon wouldn't be facing off against one that has some UU and some OU.

Good luck finding opponents. And having a lot of tiers doesn't change the fact that optimization is still the way to win, and a lopsided one will beat an evenly distributed one.

Ubers like Mewtwo and Xerneas have their points higher than allowed so they're not usable at all. The Ubers that are allowed are things like Darkrai, Skymin and Blaziken.

And their points are high enough to were you wouldn;t be able to put 5 on a team. Maybe 3 at the very most and i'm not even so sure about that.

Those aren't the same thing. Distributing copies of the Pokemon games or printing copies of Pokemon cards is copyright infringement.
Posting a Pikachu sprite is not copyright infringement. It might be trademark infringement if you sell it though, as it would be if you sell any product with the Pokemon logo stamped on it.

Square Enix shutdown a FF7 remake and Chrono Trigger while it was being made even though it was going to be free
Legal system seems to be based on who has more money than the actual law so there's nothing they can do

If Nintendo ever did that with Pokemon I'd most likely quit the franchise
Only got back into it because of challenging hacks and showdown seems to care more about battling than the main games

There was a Pokemon database app for Android called "Pokedextra" and it got shut down.

I don't claim to understand the discrepancy.

The concept is good but is impractical.
What about changing the number of points you win/lose according to the value of your team?
Basically, you win less points / lose more points if you use OU the team than when you use a "regular" team.
