Hello /vp/. I'm currently playing Pokemon Firered to get dex entries for my Pokemon Y, and all I gotta do is to beat the league and catch that Mewtwo before starting a new game to get the other starters, beasts, three more birds, etc. However, I already tried beating the postgame league, did a bad move (chose Blastoise as my first mon instead of Raichu, Lance sent out Gyarados, switch to Raichu, Gyarados used DD) and lost. Now I think I should rebuild my team (they're all level 60) together with their movesets. I'm willing to use TMs and move tutors if needed. So I come to ask for help. This is how my team looks: Blastoise: Bite, Protect, Surf, Blizzard Raichu: Thunderbolt, Strength (had Slam, this one is much better), Double Team, Thunder Wave Hypno: Headbutt, Psychic, Disable, Hypnosis Hitmonchan: Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Sky Uppercut, Detect Arcanine: Flamethrower, Extreme Speed, Odor Sleuth, Bite Marowak: Bonemerang, Bone Rush, Thrash, False Swipe Marowak needs the most refactoring. I could replace Bone Rush with Rock Slide and False Swipe with Swords Dance. Hypno could make use of Calm Mind instead of Disable, but otherwise I want to know your thoughts. Thank you for your help.

I don't think Hitmonchan is a horrible mon but since this is FR, it's horrible SP.Atk won't do Thunderpunch/ Ice Punch much justice.

>>17967966 That's what I was thinking, and Hitmonchan doesn't have many better moves. Hell, Hitmonlee isn't much better either except it has a better attack, but not a really good coverage.
What scares me the most is Lance's Kingdra and Thunderbolt Dragonite (which means I can't just Blizzard it with Blastoise).

>>17967966 yeah exactly
I'm honestly pretty impressed that OP was able to get a hitmonchan to 60, thing's elemental punches do fucking tissue paper in damage
anyway I would add that to the pool or alternatively sub in a dragon mon for the Hitmonchan, whatever works. maybe ice beam on the Blastoise as well if you can get your hands on one

>>17968040 >maybe ice beam on the Blastoise as well if you can get your hands on one I have Blizzard. Unless the suggestion is because of PP and accuracy? Because I'm damn sure Blizzard is much better, it ensures a OHKO.
>I'm honestly pretty impressed that OP was able to get a hitmonchan to 60, thing's elemental punches do fucking tissue paper in damage >Wild Fearow appeared! (lvl 40) >Go Hitmonchan! (lvl 55 approx) >Hitmonchan used Thunderpunch! >It's super effective! >Fearow used Drill Peck! >It's super effective! >Hitmonchan fainted! Use next Pokemon? Anonymous

>>17968075 yeah it's the accuracy. having to soft reset battles because of missing thunders and focus blasts is the bane of my fucking existence
regardless it does, like you said, ensure a ohko on every one of Lance's mons with a blastoise so I guess it's probably worth it

Not sure if OP is still around, but like to know a few things. Are you willing to switch your main mons with another team or want to stick with it? Cause get Dratini to learn Outrage and evolving is such a drag. Not to mention you are at Lv.60.

>>17968644 I'm not too sure, because this game has shit level scaling. At least I know a trainer with a Chansey at the Sevault Canyon, so I just use VS Seeker, equip it with the Lucky Egg, and proceed to kill it.
But anyways, a Dratini sounds like a decent idea, except I'm worried about Lance outspeeding me in every possible way.

>>17969032 Assuming your sticking with Marowak or Hitmonchan will help fight Lance's Thunderbolt Dragonite, Rock Slide is a good move. Hitmonchan is properly the better choice since has really good Sp.Def and Lance properly has Ice Beam. However, I am not sure if his defense is good enough against Hyper Beam.

>>17969273 That's the deal, I'm not even sure if Hitmonchan or Marowak will stand to Lance's mons. Which leads me to think I should stick to another Pokemon instead.
Anonymous
>>17969420 Hmm..you want a more defensive or offensive mon?
Anonymous
>>17969587 Either is fine for me as long as I can get the job done. I know this is for in-game but the E4 is seriously overleveled.

>>17969620 Outside of Dragonite, one I like is Aerodactyl. He's fast as shit and with Rock Slide he can destroy half of Lance's team. Of course the drawback is he is a high risk, high reward mon. Rock Slide isn't 100% accurate and pray to God if he doesn't KO. He's properly isn't the best guy to fight Kingdra but with Calm Mind Hypo or even with Blasty, he won't need to. You properly need Raichu to Thunder Wave his Thunderbolt Dragonite that way Aero has a chance of surviving ot Blasty deliver the final blow.

>>17969973 Aero sounds like a solid choice. Good speed, good attack and I'm lacking one of those guys.
Anonymous
>>17970007 Plus he doesn't need grinding as much as Drainti. Hope it helps.

>>17970366 Final thoughts: If you got a Rock Head Aero, Double Edge is fanastic. Though if you got only a Pressure Aero from that Amber, and don't want to go though the trouble of Daycare Eggs, you properly want Hyper Beam, Return or Strength. Fly/Aerical Ace for the Flying STAB. The 4th one I want to say Ancientpower or Earthquake but AP has shit pp and you properly don't need Ground type coverage. [Even without Marowak] Again, do as you wish.

>>17970654 I was thinking Pressure Aero w/Wing Attack, Rock Slide, Earthquake and Bite. But I can replace Bite with Rock Head and use Take Down instead. It should replace Marowak entirely.
Anonymous
>>17970745 Assuming you don't have the Aerical Ace TM and prefer WA over Fly, it's a decent move. Same could be said for Take Down/Double Edge thing. So far, Pressure Aero's bite feels like a filler move since Gen 3 Dark is consider a Special move and Aero's Sp. Attack isn't that good. Flinching is nice though.

>>17970931 Bite is more for coverage, especially against those nasty Ghost and Psychic Pokemon appearing around (blame Agatha and Lorelei's Jynx for this).
Also I've decided who will be replacing Hitmonchan: Heracross. Megahorn/Brick Break/Swords Dance/Return appears to be the best moveset.
Anonymous
>>17970995 1.) Remember when you could kill Gengar with Earthquake? Though Jynx you should use Rock Slide. [Her base defense is almost as low as Pikachu]
2.)......Yes. Though more grinding.
Anonymous
>>17971070 >Remember when you could kill Gengar with Earthquake? Good times. Fuck Levitate.
>Though Jynx you should use Rock Slide. Good idea, plus Aero's speed is way higher.
>Yes. Though more grinding. Hitmonchan will be dead weight, and Dratini is way too hard to grind and it can die to whatever Lance pulls off from his ass, and Heracross can pack a punch.
Anonymous
>>17971105 1.) Poor Hitmonchan. He has to wait until Gen 4 for him to be decent with his element punches.
2.) Could possibly sweep Lorelei's team [save for Jynx speed if he's not fast enough]. Even against Kingdra, he won't be a hinderance.
3.) Good luck and good morning/night.
