I pretty much think that they're just unfamiliar with what the 3DS can do for Pokemon, and GF didn't want to push it too far. That and making 719 (?) 3D models for Pokemon doesn't seem very easy. They basically had to start over.

Regarding moves and abilities, it's just a matter of having SO MANY moves and abilities that it's hard to come up with new ones. Take Final Fantasy (please don't scream at me for this): It's been over 20 years since they put out their first game and the skills have barely changed.

If you seriously think that, you're fucking retarded. They've had the same business strategy for decades. Mew existed but was only acquired through an event, and so was Celebi, and so was Jirachi, and so was Deoxys, and so was Shaymin, and so was Darkrai, and so was Arceus, and so was Keldeo, and so was Genesect, and so was Meloetta. Guess what? We know the last three that will be events this time around. Diancie, Volcanion, and Hoopa will continue the trend.

The only new non-event Pokemon introduced partway into the generation weren't obtainable in that generation. Marill, Bonsly, and Munchlax were introduced to hype up the new generations, and even when they appeared in the games before their introduction they weren't obtainable. They get more money from selling completely new generations of games.

Especially the fact that almost every Gym Leader lends you a TM that already existed in previous generations. It looks like they couldn't manage to come up with at least 1 fuckin' new move for those eight miserable types. Fortunately they did with the Fairy-type; I was scared that Valerie could give me Charm, for fuck's sake!

And during the adventure I really asked myself what could the signature Pokémon be for every important trainer. It's like they made up some mons just because otherwise that trainer would have used a team entirely composed by Pokémon from previous generations (like, Olympia, Ramos, Viola... man, Vivillon is the ONLY bug type of this freakin' generation! I know bugs are everywhere, but goddamnit!)

And still, Xerosic was the only one of TF scientists to have a signature Pokémon from Gen VI (Malamar), and Diantha and Lysandre had MegaForms as signature Pokémon (M-Gardevoir, M-Gyarados).

I know, I'm an autist. But who isn't, in this fucked up board?

At least that's what I keep telling myself to keep hope in the franchise. It's just a transitional gen, that's why everything feels so wrong but in the next gen they'll get the hang of it I'm sure

I feel that if we see a Pokemon Z version instead of XY2 like in gen 5, it will be similar to Platinum. Diamond and Pearl were mechanically great, but the characters were boring, the story didn't make sense, and the challenge was nonexistant. Game Freak clearly spent more time working on mechanics than they did on making the game engaging. Remember how Platinum made a pass over the Elite Four because their teams were horrible? I expect something like that but with the gym leaders and flare admins too. Gen 4 didn't have the TM problem because gen 4's selling point was the phys/special split which needed new moves by necessity. The Pokemon problem is pretty bad if you don't consider megas new Pokemon. I personally consider them all new mons since they obviously took time iterating on designs similarly to how they gave old mons evolutions in gen 4, but that's just my opinion. If you don't like the new stuff, I disagree with your taste but not with your disappointment.

If you're an autist I'm a fourth level chomosomancer, because I spend too much of my time explaining simple concepts to people on /vp/ far too often.

Me again. I agree with you; and I tend to consider M-Evolutions new mons too, but this looks like another problem to me (why no Gen V Megas? Too soon? People don't like that Gen? Genwunners weren't panded enough with those filthy starters given to you once again, that useless Snorlax blocking your path, Viridian Forest making a new appearance, Charizard loaded up with two Mega Evolutions?). I just hope that a possibile Z or even a sequel (which looks improbable to me) would give us new Megas, as I don't see how they could form new Pokémon in a third version, and repair all those plot, gameplay and in-game flaws that really crippled this game for me.

And yes, I do like the new mons, I'm just disappointed for what I highlighted in the first post.

Oh, the gen 1 pandering was there in full force and I don't feel like justifying it. They probably threw it in there because it's time to see Hoenn remakes and the last time gen 1 was relevant was when they were remade in gen 3. Most gen 5 mons really don't need megas. Look at how many of them were competitively viable by design compared to stuff introduced in gen 2 and 3. Megas were handed out to the most popular Pokemon first, and the ones that deserved evolutions second.

Also, SZS is good taste.

The only thing that really disappointed me about gen VI was that legendaries were so thin on the ground.

I enjoy the thrill of going on the mini quest to find them and battling /catching a powerful pokemon, and it gives you a sense of achievement if you are able to catch the trio as well, this time all we got was one new optional legendary that they didn't even try to add any in game folklore about with a fairly straightforward quest to catch.

No new trio, no mystery or puzzle to solve like you had with the regis (a high point in legendary questing if ever there was one), just a Mewtwo, again, and ONE of the birds, again. If they were going to reuse legendaries why not ones that you might not have like darkrei or arceus, rather than ones that, if you have been trading up through the generations as you were supposed to you would have at least twice already!

Only being able to catch one of the three birds left you feeling a bit short changed too.

I suspect they just ran out of time and couldn't put new legendaries they'd planned in as there are places on the map that hint at something epic but are completely empty like that cave at the bottom of the waterfall where they just shoved an 'ite' in it or the sea beast cave where you encounter your game's bird which has bugger all to do with the sea or beasts.

I'm hopeful that with Spotpass as a way to add new content (think Fire Emblem: Awakening's Spotpass chapters) we'll get dungeons or quests to the event legendaries this time Think about Shabboneau Castle, and old Power Plant, and Anistar's Sundial. The castle was essentially empty with things disappearing over the years as the cause, and Hoopa is supposedly a trickster that opens holes in space to move things around. Decent hook right there. The old Power Plant is an obvious hook for a full new dungeon, and the Anistar Sundial is so obviously related to Diancie that it's all but confirmed.

I REALLY don't want to see more lazy event mons like the ones we got in gen 5.

At least with the event mons you got to go on a little quest (nothing major just talking to a few people in specific locations) to unlock alt formes, which is good fun if you're not using a guide and you figure it out or stumble upon it.

The pixie quest, the ghost house and bridge and the volcano in B/W2 was a good example of how to do things right if you are going to reuse legendaries. Gen VI just parachuted them into the game, the birds in particular, out of context to fill a gap.

Remember, Game Freak isn't very good at making games from a technical perspective, and they've been seriously fucking with a game that has always been in 2D. Part of their continued success is that they spend far less money than would go on a AAA game, but this time around they've had to change the whole design process to incorporate 3D and future-proof it. They also don't want to eat up design space too fast; just look at entry hazards, bugger-all has happened there in years.

Considering GF's limitations, XY is a triumph. They've produced a solid base to work off for future gens, and that was clearly their objective in the first place. The gyms and story may have been bland, but they can get a bit creative and move back towards the Gen 5 attitudes to storytelling now that they have a proper base game to work from.

Lysandre's is definitely Pyroar. Fire-type for Team Flare and his hairstyle resembles Pyroar's mane to a degree. It just so happens that his strongest is M-Gyarados, which he only ends up using in his final battle. Strongest =/= Signature.

Diantha's would be M-Gardevoir, but you can argue that counts as a Kalos signature since Megas were only introduced in this generation.

In fact, I still think that Drifblim is Fantina's signature Pokémon, and Misdreavus/Mismagius is Morty's.
But Fantina's strongest is Mismagius in the Gym battle and Gengar in Survival Area rematch. While Morty's strongest is always Gengar, I don't even recall him using Misdreavus/Mismagius ever...

I said better not good. Ice types still need a buff along with some other types but Gen 6 made Steel and Poison better offensively while at the same time making Ghost and Dark better. Not to mention how no one ever sees Outrage spam anymore due to Fairy. Calling me autistic when you can't back up what you said. Keep going.
