Shinies in Friend Safari

ITT: we discuss the possible rates of shinies in the friend safari.

I've gotten 4.
Dragonair back during the days of hype when everyone added each other. It was completely random, I wasn't looking

Tangela after grinding in a grass safari

Krabby after spending 30 minutes in a water safari

Ivysaur after spending 30 minutes in a grass safari

In between most of these I've spent hours, maybe days on and off in other various safaris with nothing. Right now I think I'm on about hour 7 in this ground safari.

So it's basically the same rate as the Masuda Method.

I got 2

The first one was a female Braxien whe I was in the safari looking for a female one to breed Hypnosis, so it worked out.

The second one was a Dunsparce when I was stockpiling dittos.

The Masuda method is locked at 1/456 whereas the friend safari is still unknown. dekuNukem's experiments also show that every safari have their own pattern. One safari would spit out a shiny relatively quickly (Low hundreds) for a few but slowly increase into the thousands until it'll spit another one out while another safari wouldn't spit one out until well into the thousands.

I really doubt the rates are different safari to safari.

And Masuda Method's rates is around 1/819

I have a theory on friend safari rates. People say that if you are hunting for a long time in one safari and havn't found a shiny, you should change safaris. Few people have reported this working for them. Shinies also appear often when checking out new safaris. Maybe there is a value from 1 to 100(friend limit) that determines which safari has a higher chance than others. This explains why changing safaris and checking new ones sometimes results in shinies; you just went into the 'lucky' safari and once you found the shiny the value changes.
The shiny rate in normal safaris is the same as the shiny rate in the wild, that's why it takes you long to find a shiny by hunting in a safari. When finding a shiny by accident, may it be checking out new safaris or changing them, they most likely appeared just after you entered the safari. You have entered the 'lucky' safari.

I need some input from you guys to research this theory:
If you have found a random/accidental shiny in the friend safari without needing to hunt, was it the first encounter of that species in that safari?

What i mean is if the shiny excadrill you found was the first excadrill you found in that safari, for example.

Both of my accidental friend safari shinies were the first of that species to appear there.

No I spent maybe an hour in the other safari now I'm taking a break to finish breeding my 3rd competitive team.

That shit's going to drive me crazy. You might be right about the whole varying thing, because it's either I get it in 30 minutes or I don't get it at all.

Obviously just anecdotal evidence but the very first shiny in gen VI I got was a Dunsparce 5 minutes after I entered on a Safari zone for the first time (Had been playing for 150 hours until that)

I've caught 7 shiny Electabuzz, Dedenne, Drowzee, Abra, Espurr, Camerupt, 2 Combee, Vespiquen, Illumise, and probably some more that I'm not remembering from friend safaris.
I've found that when you find a shiny you usually find them in batches, like I once found 3 Electabuzz in a span of 20 minutes.
Average time to find a shiny is ~1.5-2.5 hours probably with shiny charm from my experience.

Happened to me too as stated in OP.

Ran into a dragon safari to check shit out, on the way out I found a shiny Dragonair.

We might be starting to understand the friend safari. Next step is to test the theory by entering a random safari, finding the 3 mons (pretending it is a new one and you're discovering what's there) then changing safaris. I will try this tomorrow.

I got a shiny Farfetch'd as the first encounter on someone's safari.
Shiny Ditto while I was catching a bunch to infect with Pokerus and send through wonder trade, I think I spent around an hour in that one before I got the shiny.
And a shiny Doduo while I was trying to catch a female one for a friend, was within one of the first 20 encounters.

I can agree that there might be something like this. I've met 2 shinies on the first encounter, swanna and loudred. Most shinies i've found in safaris have been in the first 30 minutes of that safari. Currently spent like 12 hours in one particular safari, with nothing.

So what if things like adding friends, etc. increases odds of finding shinies? Lot of talk about people finding shinies as soon as they go into new safaris, and there's been talk about shiny odds being increased on birthdays (can't confirm or deny, havent heard much about it)

Well, at least in my province, anyone over 14 can apply for it through their City's Recreation department. Since the recession hit, they haven't been hiring as much, but they still take on new folks with each new session.

All that's required for the job is Emergency First Aid and CPR training.

Problem is shit hours, but it's better than no job.
