If that's what OP meant then take a look at Tornados

One pure flying is a fucking tornado, that should answer the question
Flying is more like air type so there's not much that can be pure

Most Flying pokemon are dual type because of Roost.

Because Roost removes Flying type, if you have a mono flying type, it would become typeless

That's my Tornadus doesn't learn Roost

Roost was introduced in gen 4, what about gens 1-3? No pure flying types there. And even if that was the reason, they had the option of making Roost act however they liked, it didn't have to remove the Flying type.

Isn't the removing Flying type w/ Roost just a PS bug, I don't think the games actually remove the type but just allow ground attacks to hit. Besides, that's a retroactive explanation that doesn't account for gens I-III before Roost existed.

...To add to this, when they introduced Tornadus, they made it so if a pure flying type used Roost they turned into the Normal type, so it's not a problem for any future pure flying types that are able to use Roost for whatever reason (Mirror Move, Assist, Metronome etc.)
