Then again I'm using it since last Gen already when it was NU.
But I think the Defog buff is what made a lot of people use it and realize how it's actually a fucking good Pokemon. It's not really the knock off and defog buff that made it suddenly viable, but the fact that it has pretty good physical defense (and also good HP and special defense) in a metagame that mainly consist of physical attackers.
It counters Talonflame, Aegislash, Klefki, Scizor, Garchomp and a lot other OU Pokemon, which is why it's so good.
Foul Play and Roost are a must. Knock off is good for predicting switches and getting rid of items. Toxic or Taunt for walls
