>This is the gimmick; Either go through a cave or go along the craggy rocks above after every trainer.
Battles in caves have Offensive Rock pokemon, such as Golem and Barbaracle, that focus of high damage moves (and a few Explosions) to deal damage. In the cave areas Accuracy for your pokemon is slightly dropped.
Battles on the surface routes are defensive and based on endurance, pokemon such as Probopass and Shuckle are used here. Craggy rock battles have auto Stealth Rocks.
Eventually, the last path/cave exit leads to a Huge Boulder carved like Petra where the Leader battle takes place.
Gym Leader Pokemon;
Rhyperior
Barbaracle
Carbink
Shuckle
Probopass

(not sure whether maybe depending on the pathways you picked affects whether its a single, double, triple or rotation battle, commenting on how you dealt with the fighting styles of the previous trainers)

TM; Stealth Rock or Smack Down depending on which type of route you took more of.

Gym leader looks like Tibetan monk but with some modern MMA apparel, like gloves and clearly a brand-sponsored tshirt peeking out from his robe.
Badge is the Adapt badge, looks like a boulder with one side having a crack in it, the other half being polished and sharper looking.

Badge is the leaf badge and the tm is Giga Drain. The city that houses the gym would be situated right next to a forest reserve.

Would be the first gym. But surprisingly far after the beginning of the game, like difference between gym 1 & 2 in XY. In an arboretum, no trainers, puzzle is like getting to Pokemon Village but with more tricky dead ends. Speedboost Ninjask with Double Team, Swords Dance, Baton Pass & X-Scissor and Shedninja. Should be easymode for anyone with fire starter, regional bird, or obligatory early cave rock type. But obnoxious as hell for others.

Oh, and the TM is a new 60 BP never miss special rock move. I always liked the idea of gym leaders giving you TMs that would have easily beaten them, rather than their one of their own moves.

The gym is set up like a construction site. The puzzle involves pressing switches to lift and turn steel beams in order to make your way to the top. You exit by dropping onto a safety net. The generic trainers are construction workers, obviously.

Team (depending on when he's fought):
-Beldum/Metang/Metagross
-Klink/Klang/Klinklang
-Magnemite/Magneton
-Bronzor/Bronzong

Rematch team:
-Metagross
-Klinklang
-Magnezone
-Aegislash
-Klefki
-Probopass

Figured they'd all be based on man-made objects.

Besides, it's canon that Gym Leaders can challenge the Elite Four and then presumably become a member of them. Volkner says before you challenge him if you aren't any good, then he'll just go challenge the e4 because nobody can give him a decent challenge.

would be 7th or 8th gym. gym design would be a casino, have some amount of puzzle gambling to get to the penthouse floor where they find me to battle me. turns out I'm a crime boss like Giovanni, but actually use dark type

Dark, of course

Houndoom, Honchkrow, Weavile, Shiftry
(no particular order, but Houndoom is my strongest)

Dice Roll- does random amount of damage (negative or positive, which means it can heal also) to all pokemon in battle. it's gimmicky as fuck and not likely to be used at all, but gym leader TMs are rarely used to begin with

They don't, which is my point. Gym leaders are always spouting cheesy advice after the battle. Mine would be to remind a rookie trainer to always know their weakness or something.

I also really like the idea of being a potential Whitney-esque Nuzlocke killer a good few hours into the story. It'd be all the more taunting to hand out the perfect move for this gym after having decimated most of a trainer's team.

Derpening. You inflict confusion on your pokemon, and the opponent has a random stat inflicted on there pokemon.

Gym – Navigating a dark cave illuminated only by a small circle of light around the player (flash could be used to make the circle bigger). You’d progress upwards until you reached me at the illuminated top, with a stalactite-covered ceiling just above us. Along the way you’d have to avoid moving shadows with your limited vision while progressing through the maze. If you were to get caught by a shadow, a trainer riding a mechanical zubat would swoop down and challenge you.

I can imagine it in a town surrounded on all sides by caves, with fly being the only easy way in or out.

My gym would lie on the fringe of a small town at the North Sea, and take the form of a stranded modern shipwreck, maybe an oil tanker.
From the outside the capsized shipwreck would look quite dilapidated. The hull might be broken into two, be rusty, partially overgrown with kelp and clams; only the small entrance flanked by neon Pokémon League signs would mark it as the gym.
Inside, it would be mostly hollow. The challenger would have to make his way across scaffoldings and solve puzzles involving water and oil, having to separate them, redistribute them in a certain ratio, or somesuch.

For challengers early in the game, my team would consist of Whirlipede, Qwilfish, and Nidorino. Stronger opponents would have to face Scolipede, Nidoking, Weezing, and Tentacruel/Dragalge.

TM would be Clear Smog or Venom Drench.
