How Do You Play Pokemon?

No.18120650 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Saw a thread on here where OP said he was picky putting a team together based on their looks. Figured I'd post my own thread rather than hijack his.

ITT: Things you do when you play through Pokemon games now. What little habits have you developed?

Personally, competitive battling has ruined my chances of ever playing a game casually. I pretty much have these rules now for making teams in my playthroughs (obviously Nuzlockes don't follow these too strictly).

>I cannot have a type used more than once on my team unless it's a filler mon like an HM slave.
>My typical team layout usually consists of a Grass-Fire-Water core, something that flies, a bulky physical attacker, and a fast special attacker.
>I prefer my Pokemon to all be dual typed to cover as many types as possible.
>I try to have at least 1 attack of every single type somewhere on my team so I always have a super effective option available.
>Except on harder playthroughs (like difficult ROM hacks), my team is usually hyper offense to get the battle over as fast as possible.
>Any Pokemon I will be using on my team absolutely must be nicknamed if possible.

As for in general, I usually try to do the following.
>Do everything possible in a route before moving on (defeat all trainers, find all items, etc).
>If I'm playing a game where TMs are single use or I only have 1 of said TM, I'll probably never use it for fear of regretting who I used it on.
>Save master ball for only an extreme emergency (a shiny Pokemon that can faint itself for example).
>Treat all white-outs as game overs and reload my last save when they happen (unless in a Nuzlocke obviously).
>Throw out any caught pokemon with an unacceptable nature/ability and catch a new one (again, unless in a Nuzlocke).

I find it funny how my Nuzlocke playthroughs are more casual than my normal ones these days. What about you, /vp/, what are your little quirks and habits when you play?
