GSC were amazing sequels to RBY, but the remakes were kind of lame in my opinion. They did nothing to fix the problems of the originals, and just slathered a new coat of paint on it, put synthesizers, piano, and guitar into all of the music, and shipped it. Maybe people saw it as something amazing when all they had to play were Diamond and Pearl, but playing them just recently I find them more frustrating than fun.

So no, not even close. Gen 2 maybe, because it was amazing for its time and place in the series, but not HGSS. Platinum would be my nominee, and I didn't play during Gen 4/5.

Gold was THE game of my late childhood. Maybe I expected something nostalgic but with lots of new content and was miffed that the game I loved so much isn't as interesting as newer games in the series. I still think that GSC was one of the best games of its time, but the series has only gotten better with each iteration.

i prefer the originals to the remakes.

reasons why:
1. I hated the pokemon following you, have hated it since Pikachu in yellow.
2. All that hand holding and conversations every single time you get to a new area, much like b/w and b2/w2
3. Extremely slower paced to me than the originals.
4. No Game Corner or Elemental Punches in Department store.

HG/SS is the most overrated Pokemon game in the series. The game only added pointless gimmicks to please the nostalgiafags that are blindly loyal to their precious remakes, here's why it's overrated:

>Poor level scaling (Kanto fixed this but not after the gym leaders where the highest level wild Pokemon before red is still 45-51)
>Johto didn't receive any notable improvements which still is half-assed
>Pokegear is a terrible way to rematch trainers. VS Seeker did this far better and Platinum did the rematch gym leader thing better.
>Following Pokemon was and still is a worthless gimmick, all your Pokemon did was repeat the same stock phrases once the happiness was maxed.
>Pokewalker was horribly implemented with excessive grinding required.

It's not the best DS game of 2010 even, that title belongs to this.

HG/SS are my favourite games to date. Gen 1-2 are good for nostalgia but I just can't stand the slow pace.

Gen 3 is great if you get rid of the water routes. Rainy, tall grass, volcano, desert, beach, ocean. It's a nice region to explore. And yes, I love the trumpets

Gen 4 was alright. The only reason I play them now is for the pokeradar. Not a fan of the region layout.

I hated BW/BW2 because the constant moving camera in battle makes me nauseous and when the camera zooms the sprites look awful. Gen 1 sprites were better. The overworld looked nice and story was good though.

X/Y are great but they feel so empty. No minigames (contests, safari, game corner), no post game content, not even any interesting routes to train in. I haven't touch it since I finished the story

Spikey Heared Pichu and Celebi event had you travel back in time and battle Giovanni, as well as learn (officially) that Giovanni is Silver' dad. You later find Giovanni's hideout

The only events like these in Unova is the ponyfag event (B2/W2) as well as the Zoroark event (B/W).

I bought a DS to play Strange Journey and I never regretted the purchase. It was a DS Phat so it died not long after I bought a 3DS XL, but the old gal did what I bought it for.

Probably because Espeon is a second gen pokémon and his team was supposedly a gen I team.
The question is why they placed Espeon there in the first place, since Yellow Version Red doesn't get an Eevee (I think? sorry)

What really made the game so great was how personal it was made to be. The game was built from the ground up to feel as much as a journey as it could and really got the player invested in his avatar and his Pokemon. It was the perfect game for anyone who didn't care about the competitive aspect.

Not that these games were bad, but they could've at least spent more time fixing the problems of the original games than literally copy+paste almost all of it into the new versions. Would've been nice not to have to grind with low-level wild pokemon just to keep up.

Basically the level of your pokemon compared to the opponents. For example Pryce, the 7th gym leader, has pokemon in the low level 30's. But for some reason, the route right next to Mahogany Town has level 14 pokemon instead of pokemon in the level 20's. This makes it a pain if you want train your pokemon to decent levels, because everything you face is too low leveled and causes excessive grinding.

Basically the trainers you have to battle before getting to the badge check gates. After that point, you reach Victory Road, and will only battle trainers who have all eight badges.

The game stalls after beating Morty. You can either go right to Mahogany + Lake of Rage, or left to Olivine/Cianwood + Lighthouse, and because both options become available at the same time the levels of the trainers on either path are basically the same. Meaning whichever path you choose first makes the other path trivial and you barely get any levels from it.

This slows down your level progression completely and so the E4 only has Pokemon in their 40s for the most part. And then iirc, Kanto Leaders only make it up to ~50. It's ridiculous.

Not to mention wild Pokemon levels. Want to catch a Jynx in the Ice Path to help with Claire's Dragon Gym? Tough shit, that Jynx is Level 20 and the Gym's Pokemon are Level 40, and there's nowhere to grind because the Pokemon on the Ice Path are the highest wilds you can access.

In GSC, I remember going into Ilex Forest when I was younger, hoping to find some cool Pokemon to add to my team only to find a bunch of weak bug Pokemon that with a level cap of 6. You could headbutt for some level 10 Pokemon, but come on, really?

Actually, Heracross and Aipom aren't even in the Ilex Forest. You have to go all the way back to New Bark Town for them (at least, that is where I always found them)

The only things you can get that might be worth a damn in there are Noctowl, Butterfree, Beedrill, Pineco

The "comeback" of team rocket is less than a bad joke, all they did was cut some slowpokes tails (that regenerates by itself), made appear a red gyarados, and stole the radio for call Giovanni.
Otherwise, neo-team rocket admins are the most forgettable elements of all games. (including Pokemon rangers games) I don't even remember their names.

After E4, there is nothing to do. All Pokemon in Kanto have the same level. Starting at route 1 and ending in route 23, THEY ARE ALL LEVEL 35-40. it's the same shit with Kanto leaders, but Green. also is unforgivable that there is no shit to do in kanto when you are exploring it. You land Vermilion city, you start collecting badges because "fun", you destroy all the leaders because all got the same level (and your Pokemon are overleveled), and then you win the game without problems: not any attempt of team rocket, not any fights with your rival, not any hard trainers to beat, making the region so fucking empty, without a feel of what a REAL region represents (scaling lvl trainers, rival fights, a team trying to be badass awakening some old legendary Pokemon, etc)

the unique remarkable element is the Pokeathlon. I had real fun with it.

TL;DR: Johto story sucks and Kanto after Johto is more empty than cinnabar island after troll volcano.

Emulate them. You can even connect to wifi through desmume or upload the Pokémon to Pokécheck to get them through to XY if you ever get them + a new DS.
