For me gen1 remakes were bad and gen2 ones were very good.

I can't comment on III and I since I wasn't able to play them, but I would say Gen V only superior to Gen II because of the post game. Gen II had best region to me, equal to Gen IV, but Gen IV's loading times and tiny post game go against its favor.
