IV Questions

How do you decide which IV does not need to be perfect when breeding?

For legitimate breeders 6IV is fun to do for you main teams, but when trying out pokes it just becomes time consuming if they turn out rubbish.

What do for lets say a chimchar?

If it's a physical attacker, sp. atk can be anything. Otherwise I aim for all six to be perfect or else I might regret it later.

It can be. There are multiple battles I've been in where if i had a few less defensive IVs and I would have lost.

aim for all except att/spa depending on whether it's physical or special. you don't necessarily need 6 ivs on a weavile that won't use any special attacks

Depending on your nature, whatever stat the nature lowers is the one you don't need to care about. Unless you're using mixed attackers, I don't think 6Ivs is needed. Its usually Attack and Special attack, for me. Speed for potential trick room users.

Its simple, its just random stats on top of the 6 base stats. You can get Pokemon with 2-3 of the 6 stats maxed, and with Destiny knot pass these between two parents to transfer its Ivs, three from one parent, four from another with one random value from 0-31. Keep swapping out mons with higher Ivs for their gender until you get 5-6 Ivs.

For special attackers I always breed 0 Att, for physical attackers I always breed 6IV's, with the exception of certain Mons who need 0 speed. Breeding is so easy this gen, and really so is leveling and EV training, even if you breed and train something you end up not using you don't really waste much time.

If you want a special attacker you need 31 IVs in every stat besides ATK. It's actually recommended to go for 0 IVs in ATK since that way you take the lowest damage from confusion and Play Rough..

Also, if you want to make a Trickroom team, you should always go for 0 IVs in SPE.
So potentially you can end up with a mon that only has 4 IVs and it would still be 'perfect'.

However, keep in mind that HPs are also determined by the IVs so you'd need to change them accordingly if you're going for a specific one. But breeding for HPs is insanely tedious so you might not want to make this your first breeding project.

If a pokemon has a good attack "gene", then it has higher attack than a similarly trained pokemon with a bad attack "gene". They have numerical values ranging from 0, the worst, to 31, the best, and can be passed down in breeding, although there is still some randomness involved in the inheritance process.
