Y's drought is super useful and DAT SPECIAL ATTACK
X's dragon typing is much better for STAB moves, and a balance of both high atk and high spec attack gives it more move variety

The most problem I have with this is, you can neither really EV boost it, since you either have to neglect speed, neglect one of the attack stats or only halve the attack stats each and you can't really set up a promoting nature, besides damaging its defenses even more

Yeah he was pretty frail, but it worked alright. Standard DD X Zard is definitely better, but I preferred the mixed set.

As a lifelong Zard-fan, I go with X, but not by much, and both are pretty fantastic.

As others have said, Y has devastating power at its disposal immediately after Mega Evolving. It can blast its way through most walls right off the bat, and Sun can support the team if needed.

X is a Dragon Dancer, and it is easily one of the best set-up sweepers around. After a boost or two it has potential to really tear things up. It has great typing, powerful offenses, a great ability that synergizes with its strongest moves, workable speed and decent bulk.

Design-wise, I'm fond of both and have my gripes about both, but I give it to X again. I prefer Y's wings, but dislike its tiny forelimbs, whereas X looks very physically intimidating but is a tad busy-looking. I still think it works, cries of "edgy" be damned. It's a more powerful-looking Charizard, and the color-change matches the type-change to Dragon.

Both are really great additions and incredibly powerful when played right. Even though I always choose Charmander I still don't think it's right that he got two MEvos and the other Kanto starters didn't and the other starters besides Blaziken didn't get anything.

design-wise, though, megazard x just kinda puts me off, like it's not a natural progression of charizard
megazard y feels a lot more natural and sleek, like an aerodynamic bullet compared to a musket ball

Y is the bullet fast easy to get off and effective

X is the musket ball, little slower little more prep but wicked nasty when it comes to results go look up a musket wound you'll get that comparison easier with a visual refrence

I agree with your assessment. Yzard is definitely much more the proper "Charizard +". If 4th evos were a thing he looks more like the logical progression for the Charmander line to take, and his sleek, aerodynamic look is pretty sweet.

Xzard is more like a mutation. He doesn't look as refined, and in profile/silhouette/general shape he looks more like standard Charizard. Whereas Y takes certain aspects of the family and expands on them, X is just what Charizard would be if he were always a Dragon. He gets beefier, grows some spikes, leaves the fire-faucet running. Apart from the color, sharper look, and mouth flames, he hasn't changed all that much.

I think both are suitable themes and represent the two different paths for Mega-Evolution: natural growth and enhancement of abilities VS. a sudden and dramatic boost of power.

Aesthetically speaking I prefer Charizard Y, because it looks good next to M-Venusaur and M-Blastoise as a logical progression. Kind of a shame the hands degenerated but I can live with it.

Competitively I got better results with X, but both are amazing and drink the tears of anti-gewunners everyday

Correct me if I'm wrong but something like Salamence runs mixed so it's not walled by steels and physical walls like Hippowdon right? CharX doesn't seem to need anything other than Dragon Claw/Outrage and Flare Blitz/Fire Punch due to its typing. Heatran, Azumarill and Carbink may be problematic but with its 2 stabs, it can handle everything else.

CharX gets fire STAB so steels aren't a problem even with physical moves. Tough claws and DD, even while Jolly, allows him to break through max def Hippowdon (+1 dragon claw on the switch and +1 flare blitz after).

Of course, Hippowdon has a choice of coming in while it uses DD (although the risk of getting OHKOd by Yzard Fire Blast is there) and then hitting CharX hard but the point remains that Hippowdon can't counter it if comes in while CharX is at +1 (afraid of guessing wrong and getting OHKOd by Yzard). Same goes for Landorus-T.

If CharX opts to use Outrage, max def Slowbro gets wrecked too. Mixed just doesn't make sense when you can already break through almost everything with just 2 moves. If Charizard ever gets Draco Meteor though, things will get interesting for both X and Y. Or if Dragon Dance also boosts Satk.

I thought the main thing that made both Zards as scary as they are was their unpredictability. You can never be sure which one it's going to be when charizard comes out and both have different counters. But because Y seems to be more used, X may be good for catching opponents off-guard

Earthquake being unaffected by STAB or tough claws is 200 power.

With a single dragon dance (which is incredibly easy to pull off if your opponent is running an aegislash, goodra, ferrothorn, or like half the bulky metagame) then you're so set that it's ridiculous. Almost nothing can outspeed you at that point of base 100 +1 and you OHKO everything

There is no reason that should be allowed. You can't even out-priority him since Aqua Jet is only neutral due to dragon typing, Steel is resisted still, and Talonflame fails to OHKO.

Y's good as a nuke and better in doubles since X is much more suited towards Singles, but X is just way too fucking good. There's only three Pokemon I've faced so far that can actively take X on after being set up because they happened to have a ferrothorn and let it come onto the field. That's bulky choice band variants of Azumarill, Tyranitar, and Rhyperior. Two of which can be easily OHKO'd depending on your fourth move you have besides Outrage and Flare Blitz. (Thunderpunch for Azumarill and Brick Break for Tyranitar)
Like seriously why isn't this even being suspected above pinsir

I just had a game where I switched in my Landorus-T on a Charizard predicting a DD X. It was a Y. Thank god he didn't use Fire Blast (he used Ancient power predicting I'll switch in my Talonflame). What's the point of running Mixed Zard X? Overheat will never, ever hit anything harder than Flare Blitz would have, thanks to the 30% Tough Claws boost; After a single DD MegaZard X can OHKO nearly everything in the game with Outrage/Flare Blitz. Using DD and then having no physical Fire STAB is not good.

It's pretty well accepted that both of them are wicked strong. One's a nuke, the other's a sub-orbital cannon. But what really seals the deal for them is that you won't know what it is until it pops the mega evo.
The way they both operate, they can both essentially be swapped between each other with little to no issue. I don't have to build a team around having a Megazard Y just because of Drought, and it's not absolutely necessary to have team support for X-zard's setup.

That's actually what got Mega-Lucario banned just recently. Unpredictability (along with aptitude in both areas) is a super potent advantage.

You only lack longevity if you run EQ over Roost, which you don't really need to do since you'll generally have other Pokemon that can deal with the grand total of three Pokemon that resist your STABs.

If you run Overheat over Flare Blitz you not only miss out on tremendous amounts of power (not only are you missing Tough Claws but you're also likely not running 252 SpA EVs) but you also leave yourself vulnerable to stuff that you would ordinarily be able to kill. I'm sorry but Mixed Zard X just isn't good; Splitting his offenses doesn't help achieve anything. Nothing can wall him anyway so why bother?

I think Y looks more like a natural evolution of charizard . In terms of size and shape X looks pretty much the same as normal shiny sharizard but with blue flames and spikes.

Y hits hard, but can be OHKO'd by lots of things
X is tanky, has a good defensive typing, and with will-o-wisp and roost can take on any and all physical threats

At first, I thought Charizard X was lackluster and Charizard Y was the clear frontrunner. However, Charizard X has access to Dragon Dance and is clearly the best user of it in the game, besides perhaps Dragonite. With 1 Dragon Dance he can destroy all but a very few Pokemon. Charizard Y is strong, definitely, but he does not have the OHKO prowess that a Charizard X with a single boost has. Charizard Y often leaves many pokemon with very little health left, allowing himself to be worn down by hits. He also has Middling speed that is not fixed by Dragon Dance, so he is also weak to fast pokemon.

Depends entirely, especially cause it can go one of two ways and you have to prepare accordingly.
Charizard Y is a straightforward special attacker, no setting up if we're excluding the automatic drought so it causes big damage right off the bat. Also can be pretty supportive if you have other pokemon that can benefit from drought or the opponent is more vulnerable to it.

Charizard X is setup sweeper, it can go in and hit sure, but with Dragon Dance to benefit it a lot more than Y since its more aimed on physical attack, there isn't a lot that can take it on one on one and sweep against an otherwise weakened team.

TL;DR, Y for hitting hard fast and weather benefits which hits arguably harder than X without the setup, X for mid-late game set up sweeper that hits harder after one DD than Y.

The flames should just come out when attacking, or come out in bursts, or even if they're always burning just make it a fluid animation of some sort. It's actually detrimental for Char X to have Solar Power on the small chance that sun is up from another source. It won't have the moves to benefit from it and there's a chance of getting damaged if you don't mega evolve as you Dragon Dance (flying type is useful against an enemy choice locked into an EQ or fighting move for example).

Char Y can very, very rarely benefit from it such as delaying megavolving so you can refresh the sun. You do get damaged though. I'd say it's not that important for both but if you really care, get it for Y.

Jolly Charizard X. Here's the list of relevant pokemon that outspeed you if you're not jolly. Most of them can OHKO you.

Excadrill, Landorus-T, Arcanine, Kyurem-B, Zygarde, Hydreigon, Haxorus, Salamence, Volcarona, Mega Medicham, Entei, Mega Gardevoir, Mew and Manaphy

You can't always assume that you can get to + 1 and sometimes, you just need to Dragon Claw Kyurem-B or Flare Blitz that Excadrill immediately. Not being able to speed tie Mega Medicham or Salamence feels bad. Losing to Scarf Landorus-T in speed sucks too.

Adamant does raise your chance of OHKOs with or without SR on many match-ups so it's not all that bad. The most noteworthy is OHKOing 252 hp Tyranitar with Outrage without SR. But then again, that's assuming you have Outrage instead of Dragon Claw.

Focus Blast for the 3rd seems like the best choice. For Ttar and Heatran. Gotta hate that accuracy though.

The 4th slot depends on what you want. These are what I've seen people use.
-Dragon Pulse to punish Lati@s switching in but you're forced out if you're within Draco Meteor KO range and they can just Roost it off.
-Hidden Power Ice to OHKO 4x weak dragons on the switch-in. Again, it's a prediction thing.
-Roost because Drought Fire Blast can 2HKO even things that resist it and 115 sdef is something to work with.
-Flare Blitz to nail Blissey on the switch-in for a 2HKO. Fails against Chansey though but fortunately, Knock off reduced Chansey usage.
-Ancient Power to nail Talonflame which usually OHKOs you.
-EQ if they hate Heatran that much and don't want to gamble on FB.

I've even seen Dragon Dance to bluff a Charizard X mega. Flame Charge too. Please GameFreak. Please give Charizard Draco Meteor to nail the Lati@s.
