Stealth Rock, like the Ground Type Move Spikes and the Poison Type Move Toxic Spikes, punish Switching, a staple strategy of high level play. Switching is tactic of withdrawing your current Pokemon and sending out another. As if a trap, Stealth Rock causes damage to the incoming pokemon from a Switch. it's because nintendo uses shitty doubles where entry hazards are worthless(not even normal shitty doubles, you can only use 4 pokemon what the fuck the point) while real competitive is 6v6 singles like red/blue god intended.

I'll be honest, the fighting version of stealth rock couldn't be an normal entry hazard. It'd have to maybe be an ability a pokemon had that when he's on the field, he hits any pokemon switching in.

make a dark type one that hits any pokemon switching out.

The real question is why does Stealth Rock exist at all? I mean I get it was intended to hit the Flying types spikes misses, but they all get roost so they don't care much. All it really does is hurt the already struggling ice, fire and bug types.

I wouldn't mind if it was an electric type move though"

Grass is resisted by fire, bug, flying and hits ice neutral.

Hits rock, ground and water. Might be cool. The ones affected from current OU the most would be Rotom-W, Azumarill, Greninja, Tyranitar, Cloyster, Donphan and Starmie. Really though, they should just make Stealth Rock kinda like Hidden Power. Based on EVs, it comes out as a different type.
