But the way it worked out is fine, I have had fun on playing through with Chespin and with Froakie. I have to admit, Fennekin was a lot less fun than I thought, just really underwhelming and not very interesting to use in comparison.

I think there will be 5th/6th gen Mega evolutions eventually.
The Mega Evo mechanic is one of the more clever things they've done, as more games are released and more Pokemon are left behind the curve, they can add mega evolutions that give the left-behind mons a chance. And they can freely add them to the games without fucking anything up
. I'm expecting some more with Z, and significantly more than that with the next generation of games.
Unless they drop megas and leave it at what we have which I don't expect but it's a chance (Like how just about everything in gen IV had gender differences while very few do in any gens since because people don't actually care that much.
Still wish they would carry on branching old evolution lines along with introducing megas though, it provides a different sort of update

Gen I is hard to talk about because nostalgia clouds all else
Gen II was a bit boring in retrospect but maybe that's just me, still like raising Gen II starters though

I thought Gen III starters were some of the best
Didn't like Gen IV except for Torterra, loved that guy. In hindsight Empoleon is a lot of fun to play with
Gen V was pretty bad for starters though. They were all surprisingly weak to play with, and all pretty boring as all.

I think Gen VI is the best starter gen since III to be honest, Fennekin was the only one I haven't had fun raising and using in battles.

I liked the gen 6 starters enough. I like that we finally got a fighting/psychic/dark triangle and they all had a rpg theme to them.

But there are plenty that could use it. It would allow them to be more useable and also potentially become more interesting in concept/design, so honestly if you don't like Gen V mons you should WANT them to get mega evolutions so they have a chance to be better.

Gen II had Totodile, who was awesome. Cyndaquil was bland. Chikorita sucked.
Gen III was pretty good across the board. Probably the best designs on average outside of Gen I.
Gen IV kinda stinks. I like Torterra well enough, but if Torterra is your ace in the hole you know it's a bad lineup.
Gen V sucks completely. It sucks because all three start with promise but their evolutions all just suck.You could maybe talk me into Samurott being decent but... I dunno man.
Gen VI is pretty bad but not as bad as Gen V. Fennekin might be the worst starter since Chikorita. Chespin is boring. Froakie is okay. If Samurott is decent, Greninja is decent

would have been better if their secondary typing was traded around imo, say greninja was fighting while chespin was dark, and Delphox stayed the same. I always liked the idea that the starters would develop a second type that would give them the upper hand against the starter they were originally weak to.

I didn't like gen 5's starters because they were all retreads of previous starters and arguably worse than those previous starters. I liked Serperior's design though. Samurott and Emboar are arguably the worst starters in my opinion.

I think probably the best, most interesting designs of the starters would be

Cyndaquil (not a fan of the full evo, he loses a little of his mysterious flare),
Greninja,
Mudkip,
Feraligatr,
Infernape,
and honestly Chesnaught. There is no other pokemon like Chesnaught, he is just totally unique in so many ways and I admire that.
