vaporeon is a good one if you want surf but there`s plenty of other water pokemon in the game

Hey all, doing a Y wonderlocke. Got a fucking awesome team though, almost doesn't seem fair.

- Gligar, Lv. 13

- Gastly, Lv. 13

- Carbink, Lv. 12

- Ralts, Lv. 12

- Gible, Lv. 12

- Zubat, Lv. 12

Just beat the first gym, I'm limiting myself to no potions during battles (doesn't really make a difference between battles since poison can't kill outside of battles anymore). And no trades, so I can't get Gliscor or Gengar, which should make it more fair for the NPCs. Also I'm giving myself a level cap of no more than 5 levels higher than the upcoming gym leader's top Pokemon. Hopefully I can make it through without losing anyone. Good luck with your challenges!

I did get some odd things, like a level 88 Honedge, but I opted to not use that and WT it away.

My only problem is I have nothing to take special attacks besides maybe Mega Gardevoir, but the Ralts is male and I could use a fighting type in Gallade.

I've actually done a few monotypes. A bug one for Fire Red and a Ruby Normal Monotype.
I've beaten HG/SS before, I still don't like them that much since it has a lot of what makes Gen 2 disappointing to me. At least it's mildly faster due to the inclusion of a run button.

I suppose P/S Emerald Split (unless there's a good romhack that does it already) will go like this.
-First Pokemon on every route
-Minus duplicates since that just makes this a six Mightyena run
-If a Pokemon faints it must be released
-Not gonna start till I get Pokeballs
-Dumping my starter after first catch
-no healing in battle outside of held items or self recovery moves

Debating if I should include a limited Pokecenter visits rule or a Level rule as well to actually make this 'fun'. Any suggestions?

Just got out of Ice Path after steamrolling Pryce. Clair's 'mons are all 38-41, so I'm going to be grinding for a while.

In case anyone is on the fence, SS/HG 'lockes are fairly easy, though I used weird gimmicky shit on a few gym battles to avoid casualties (Chuck was the hardest so far). Not sure if I'm continuing past the E4.

Ultimately it's up to you and your own rules.

The only captures I allow outside of the initial one per route are shinies, which would be immediately carted off to bank.

Well, encountering Pachirisu is not that common, and I do make some exceptions for particularly rare encounters.

That said, though, I don't really end up using them anyway.

Guys how should I react with fossil pokemons?

If i have a fossil and revive it, should I consider it the first pokemon found on that city with the reviver

or

should consider it the first mon found in the route I got the fossil? (say as >>18170145, you get on the ruins and smash rocks before getting on the grass, so that pokemon is from the ruins and next pokemons on the grass should be ignored)

or ignore fossiles they are items

It's really up to how you want to deal with it. I'm of the opinion that where you received the fossil was where the Pokemon itself originated, and if you've caught another in that area you can't revive it.

I've never had much use for it aside from backtracking to a city I've never gotten a 'mon in and trying for a Magikarp or something. Also a useful way to get a swimming Pokemon if no one in your roster can.

Welp, just rounded off today's session with taking out the first two Flare Grunts in the power plant, but goddamn that female grunt's Golbat was irritating. Confuse Ray'd my 'Mons any chance it got and had two crits on two different members with Acrobatics. Reminder that I should bring Tyrunt back in...or maybe use that erroneously caught Pachirisu as a means to ward off flyers until I get something better. I do make exceptions to some rares, after all.

Either way, managed to get my Spritzee to evolve as well. Using an Aromatisse should prove interesting.

Whichever option leaves less of a bad taste in your mouth is the correct one. People invent clauses for Nuzlocke's original rules all the time - Revival of fallen mons based on some criteria, modification of the first-route mons to include two, or only the rarest encounter in the route.

That doesn't make them "pure" Nuzlockes, but who really cares? It's still a self-imposed challenge. And that's really what this thread's all about - Nuzlockes and Wonderlockes and Mono runs, and everything in between.

I did a no grind, no luckyegg, no exp share, no supertrain no Amie run of Y and it was pretty challenging, especially when you run into one of them bitch ass Karate trainers. You end up very underleveled which makes it pretty challenging.

oddly enough I had the easiest time in the E4 and my Pokemon ended up around level 54-55 at the very end.

I'm thinking of doing a NFE run but allowing the use of EXP share or Amie or something because with NFE's I don't think I'll be able to beat the game without spamming healing items or something.

Hey guys, first time Nuzlocker here, so I went pretty -easy- on the rules, anyways I'm having fun.

First mon to die was stupid random crit, OHKO from Ralts, had to wait to get Pokéballs to release him though.

Kept accidentally killing first encounters because my Eevee was pretty bulky and Cyndaquill was dead, when I finally found Silcoon I made him to Beautifly, which I let die by not being cautious in double battle. Ugh. What's worse that upon releasing him I realized he was holding Exp. share

Many of the most common monsters are very fragile, have bad movesets or BOTH, many of the earliest grinding zones have guys with potential 1HKO movies like Fire Fang or Rock Throw, there are no good TMs available until the 5th or 6th badge, scaling experiance points makes it incredibly punishing to get your team leveled to take on gym leaders with minimal risk, and there are trainers on almost every route with fuck you tactics like Swagger+Payback or Defense Curl plus Rollout. And don't get me started on that fucking sandstorm zone.

I mean, I thought Platinum was bad, but christ. I can't even imagine trying this on hard mode.

I started Nuzlocking Black 2 the other day. I got two TPKs to complete bullshit RNG shit, then got to the fourth gym and lost half of my team on the very last trainer before taking on the gym, a double battle against two Scrafties that both used Payback on the same target.

I managed to clear the gym by abusing stealth rocks on her switching and burning like 20 potions, but I was so pissed about feeling like the game was "cheating," that I deleted the same file in a moment of blind rage.

The only two rules that even make a Nuzlocke a Nuzlocke are catching the first Pokemon you see in an area and treating fainted Pokemon as dead. Prohibiting the use of items is strictly a matter of personal preference.

So, I guess you just really like hours upon hours of mind-numbing grinding punctuated by incredibly frequent Pokemon Center trips? Pokemon is a turn-based strategy game, in the end it's just a really complex math problem and Nuzlocke adds a lot of random elements to that problem. If you forbid yourself items for the "Challenge," the only way to even out the dice rolls in battle (and I'm not only talking about criticals. IVs, natures, abilities, overall team composition all matter.) is to be overleveled compared to your opponent.

If you think that "challenge," means spinning the roulette wheel then fine, but I don't. And as a side note, at least in the early parts of the game, like say the first 3-4 gyms, money is as finite a resource as anything else. What you spend it on can be part of the challenge too, and having potions, status cures or Pokeballs or NOT having them at certain points can drastically swing a game.

The "dice rolls" are already massively in the players favour, standard nuzlocke doesn't even come close to evening things out.
The AI can't revive pokemon, catch new pokemon, most use less than 6 or even 3 pokemon.
Only gym leaders and e4 can heal their pokemon at all, and they only have 2 or 3 full restores.
Even with the battle style on switch, the AI doesn't get the ability to see your upcoming monster and switch theirs when yours is knocked out.

Playing with items and battle style on switch is simply cheating and unfair. Calling it a "challenge" of any kind is absurd.

You can't revive your Pokemon either. Having 6 as compared to 2 or 3 may be an advantage in any given battle but it's not an advantage when you've got an absolute maximum of 40 or so to take on hundreds over the course of a game. When you walk into Burgh's gym with a Dewott, an Azumarill, a Watchog, a Mincinno, an Elekid and a Raticate how exactly are you planning to beat his Leavanny without any potions?

There's challenge and there's begging the universe to give you a middle finger.

Kuntah, the Makuhita. Died fighting a Dunsparce in Dark Cave. Dunsparce used Rage. Makuhita used Arm Thrust. Hit 5 Times. DIdn't kill. Tried to run, but I couldn't. First death had a pretty powerful impact. I had just caught him, too...

Atmosphere, the Gastly. Unexpected Bite attack from... something. I don't remember. I was looking forward to how he'd turn out.

Phaphner, the Phanpy(L18). This little dude was my nigga. Picking up items like potions and shit for me to use. Sure, he didn't learn too many useful attacks, but that was my dude. Unfortunately, a Pineco decided to use Selfdestruct at nearly full health and score a critical hit. It wasn't meant to be, Phaph.

Luffy, the Piplup and Bastian, the Shieldon(L20). Bird killed two pokemon with one attack. Was fighting a trainer with a Noctowl. Uproar did ridiculous damage, and I had to switch out to other pokemon to prevent from killing my whole team. Barely made it out alive. I had just gotten those two as well. I was looking forward to the Swapert/Meganium/Empoleon/Bastiodon combo.

I'm struggling in Goldenrod, man. Getting my ass kicked everywhere. I was also upset to find that the prize pokemon in the game corner changed. I wanted an Ekans.

Also, I made a rule. Battles with Ethan would be deemed "friendly battles" and not result in death of the pokemon upon fainting. I may remove that rule later in the game, though. It's just that he wiped me the fuck out.

I'd bring Fire Red & Leaf Green up in the difficulty ranking. It can get really rough towards the end. I'd say even Platinum is a cakewalk compared to it. I very nearly beat Platinum, but only managed to get to Koga before losing 4/6 of my team and ending up with only a Lapras and Pidgeot. Managed to make it to the E4 before I was destroyed by Lorelei.

Continuing. Still around there, but I've beaten Grant. Paradiso, my Floette, is now among the lost because I was far too overconfident with the Brains and Brawn fight outside the cave; she will be missed. Swoop, a Staravia I caught, is serving as her replacement, and she's doing well so far. Luna, my Illumise, has also done well, but she's been boxed for the while to bring my Litleo back. Espurr's now Meowstic, Inkay's close to becoming Malamar - I'm enjoying Swagger + Foul Play immensely. Caught a Mr. Mime in Reflection Cave. Hopefully things won't be too problematic.

- buy Calm Mind in Goldenrod Mall, teach to Espeon, level up to lvl 28 when Espeon gets Psybeam, raise your Sp. Att by 3-4 stages (I did this while my Togepi put enemy to sleep) and then you have yourself nice OHKO sweep (even that fucking Miltank)

I am training up a Nidoran F(20 now, will evolve and move on at 23), though. Nidoqueen's one of my favorites. I imagine she can put up a fight against Whitney, since Rollout won't be too bad, and I think she can learn Focus Blast. I hate grinding, but when you're losing Pokemon, you've gotta make due with what you got.

Since Power Gem is Special, it works good too, in fact, I was sweeping with Power Gem and I got 28 during the battle (after Miltank I think) and I changed it to Psybeam because even though you get 5 power less, you get STAB and it'll be good to sweep Morty too.

tl;dr Psybeam or not, get Calm Mind on him srsly.

I think the moveset of Whitney has been changed in SG though and no longer focuses on Rollout, - details in spoiler, this time it actually fullfills its purposeget ready to face all female pokemons with Attract and Miltank has Body Slam

Graveller with Rock smash was supposed to be muh nigga in that battle, since Normal gym and all that jazz, but I just -had- to lose him to random OHKO critical Blizzard in the underground where the haircut brothers are

Where's a good place to start with Nuzlocking, main games or romhacks? I've been wanting to do a Nuzocke run for a long time but don't know where to start. Wouldn;t mind streaming them either.

Eh, they're okay. I wish Nidoqueen still had level up moves. I'd like to get Toxic Spikes, but that's too far down the line.

Thanks, I guess getting used to the format on familiar games is a good idea. Always wanted to start with Emerald but the phy/spe split would be annoying as hell now..

If my plans tonight fall through, I'll start amy first run & post it here. If i can be bothered, I might stream it. Guess it would be interesting to watch a Nuzlocke by a first-timer or not.

for anyone interested i will be streaming after work tonight, i'll probably do emerald or something. i used to have a terrible laptop and now i have a pretty good PC so I can do blind nuzlockes of gen 4 and 5, and whatever else.
