Am I alone in vastly preferring the purely 2D games?

It's probably nostalgia, but I really disliked as the games began to include more 3D elements in the world, and the full jump to 3D just doesn't work with me.

I really love high quality 2D sprites. The games also felt faster, weirdly enough, though X/Y seems just as fast.

Thoughts?

Opinions, OP. I personally like gen VI's 3D more, but that's because i'm a sucker from 2D to 3D done well.

But please, "high quality sprites"? Pokémon sprites and graphics in general always sucked. This still continues today.

OP here. I don't mean to say Pokemon has top quality sprites. They don't really, though I think Gen III looks really good at times. I mean more that high quality sprites will look way better than the current 3d appearance.

I'm on the fence. I LOVE gorgeous 2D sprites and would love to see it done on the 3DS, but they pulled off the 3D surprisingly well. Before it was released I gave it a lot of shit, but the videos and still images didn't do X/Y justice. They look lovely.

Kind of what I felt, with 3D, you either go big or go home. If you're not ready to go full fledged anything, don't bother... That's why I don't care for N64 or PS1, or DS, we just weren't ready for 3D in those times.

That said, I don't prefer 2D pokemon games because slow paced battles, and believe it or not, diagonal movement is really fucking important. Also 2D games had too fucking much HM requirements.

I think Gen VI graphics are a logical consequence and they are fine as they are. I hope the games will follow this way

I agree, OP. I'm nervous about the Ruby/Sapphire remakes because they may not capture the feel of Hoenn that I grew to love more than any other region.

They wont because of something called nostalgia.

Not trying to start an argument, but you and I both know that there's no way they will create a Hoenn-based game that will "recapture the magic" you fondly remember the games with.

Also, FR/LG & HG/SS were released on their games 10th Anniversary respectively, yet we've past the Gen 3 Anniversary.
Why do you still think we're getting remakes?

I still feel like Platinum and HG/SS were the peak of the entire franchise. They had beautiful sprites, great stories, and fantastic music.

B/W fell off a goddamn cliff though. Some chucklefuck decided that zooming in to and warping pixel sprites was a GOOD idea, and the game looked like complete ass all the way through.

Gen V was the worst gen.

Audino was one of the FEW Pokemon that got killed by 3D. By and large things are much much much better in 3D than they ever were in B/W's disgusting sprites.

Jury is still out on Sentret Schwarzenegger.

Yeah Gen V tends to look like garbage. I think Gen IV looks pretty darn good at times, but I will never like the 3D-ified towns and world and how warped it looks. It also chugged in comparison to Gen III, which feels smoother.
