Anyone know a good way to effectively train dragon pokemon to counter fairies?
Dragon trainer since red, and kind of pissed off that fairies even exist.

What, did you go a step above Lance and just have a team of six Dragonites? You couldn't even have a full team of six unique fully evolved Dragon types until Gen IV (assuming you don't use legendaries). Even goddamn Ghost trainers were able to somewhat properly be a thing a whole gen prior.

Dragagle would have been my disappointment of the generation if not for Pangoro beating it to the throne of disappointment.

Teach that Hydreigon Flash Cannon.
If you can, predict the Fairy switch-in. Fairy types are such an obvious switch-in on Hydreigon because of Dragon immunity, Dark resistance, and the fact that pretty much any Fairy type attack will OHKO it. Most fairies do not enjoy being nailed by two Flash Cannons in a row however.

Then you're not going to switch in. The whole point of a switch in to a Fairy type is because you're expecting some dragon or dark attack to come off the Hydregion, and you want to switch before it hits to resist it.

Then WHOOPS HERE COMES STEEL ATTACK.

You don't. Countering involving switches into them, and all the remotely strong fairies will insta-gib you before you can even move.

Sure, garchomp can check some with its powerful erfquake, but it's not going to be switching in to Mawile, Gardevoir, Sylveon, Azumarill, or pretty much anyone else,

lol'd. Hydreigon has Iron Tail though but it has even poorer accuracy than Stone Miss and still only 2HKOs.

Hydreigon was probably hit the hardest (literally) by fairies. They're all really tanky on the special side, at least Garchomp can KO most of them with earthquake.

At least back in gen 1 psychic needed 2 more types to counter it, Dragon could easily have been nerfed by making ice not shit or by not having every dragon type be a pseudo-legendary.

Max defense Sylveon is its best set. Almost no special attackers are able to 2HKO it even at 252/0 investment, and max investment defense allows it it counter or check a lot of other physical attackers (who are way more common than special attackers anyway) it otherwise couldn't.

Fairy didn't even really do anything to balance dragon. They're almost exclusively slow and physically frail and were supposed to counter a type that is generally fast and physically powerful.

Mamoswine is still a better dragon slayer than most fairies.

I think introducing an immunity to Dragon was great.

Even if they had done the same with Ice, Ice is mostly defensive Pokemon, and would have served little purpose with every Dragon running at least one other attack that can hit Ice super-effectively.

With Fairy's weaknesses being only Poison and Steel, attack types no Dragon will ever run unless they specifically want to check their Fairy weakness and so indirectly nerfing themselves for other coverage, it works much better.

Freeze is broken. Sleep at least has a turn limit, Freeze doesn't and can last for many, many turns. Its only balancing point is that it's pretty rare.

Monodragons tend to run Latias these days because of its defensive capabilities, and with the fact that most fairies are Special Attack based.
Mega Mawile is OHKOed by Garchomp and I think Multiscale D-Nite can survive a hit and KO it back after Weakness Policy.

Dark had always sucked. It only exist at counter physics and any non-fighting physical move or shadow-ball does it just fine. Its a shame, dark types have A+ designs
