for anyone interested i will be streaming after work tonight, i'll probably do emerald or something. i used to have a terrible laptop and now i have a pretty good PC so I can do blind nuzlockes of gen 4 and 5, and whatever else.

Going to transfer some shit to B2 from Platinum and then start a Nuzlock for Platinum.

Once Y2 or Z comes out, I'll transfer everything up on Pokebank and do a Y Nuzlocke run.

Should I go Chimchar, Turtwig, or Piplup? I like all 3 so I'm not sure which to use.

I'd like to watch. I posted in the old thread that I want to start my first ever Nuzlocke & was thinking of doing Emerald. How does the lack of phy/spe split affect it? I feel like I may end up with a few unnecessary losses due to forgetting about that.

I'm not even sure, I haven't done a nuzlocke now in a few months and even when I used to stream every day I wasn't the most knowledgeable person here. I do hope some people stop in, it'd be nice to gather up some of the guys who used to play lurk and chat here.

I'd recommend Chimchar, having a fire and later fighting type right off the bat really comes in handy. But Empoleon is very useful and Torterra is one of my favorite mons, so the choice is hard

Pretty hard to grasp, it's good, I like it.
More challenging than regular one, also bunch of pokés all around the place makes it good.

But everybody likes something different, some people actually prefer new regions, new storylines etc. (Pokemon Light Platinum is really, really great romhack, quite challengin too)

I never played a pokemon game since red back on the gameboy. (I played firered on an emulator a long time ago).

My bf got my a 3ds and pokemon, and I read that its seriously easy, what can I do to make the first playthough a little more difficult while not reducing the fun for a newbie? Im not doing something really hard like the nuzlocke for first time, but I'd like to do it a second time through.

Don't use the EXP Share that you get in Santalune town. Turn that shit off as soon as you get it, because it makes the game ultra easy. It's still pretty easy without it, but it does bring some challenge back.

The two most important things you can do to make the game harder without actually Nuzlocking are not using the Exp. Share and setting battles to Set (doesn't give you the option to freely switch out your own pokemon when an opponent's faints)

Like this guy said. Try to use a wide variety of Pokemon. I had a lot of fun with X partially because of all the different teams I could make with all the Pokemon available. Only use the exp share to train a new team of Pokemon, then I'd recommend turning it off.

I don't see why you wouldn't want to do a nuzlocke.. The only rules are: no exp share, catch one pokemon and only one from each new area, and when one dies, you have to release it.

I don't think it has to be a lot. Just try out something new. You can also avoid grinding. I don't know how broken EXP share is in X/Y, since I haven't gotten it yet, but grinding will make raising new pokemon less of a challenge.

I won't post the rest, so I don't spoil it but I had some close calls with some unexpected moves. Also, Quincy said "Fuck bitches, get badges," fighting through attract for three straight turns, repeatedly socking Whitney's shit with Rock Smash. Also, Taurus proved to be the MVP. Encore can be awesome. She was the only pokemon to leave the battle in green health aside from Lorne.

Now to get that gotdamn Sudowoodo. I'm allowed to catch that, right? I know Legendary pokemon are frowned upon. Hopefully Morty goes this smoothly.

Update: Made it to Ecruteak City. Had to kill Sudowoodo due to running out of Poke balls. Suffered a casualty as well. Thanks to a bullshit critical hit followed by confusion, Taurus loses to Rival's Haunter and its Sucker Punch. Sucker Punch took 60% of Taurus' health away somehow, leaving it with 1HP. Then confusion did the rest.

Ewan takes care of the rest of his pokemon fairly easily. He learns Psybeam, and we catch a new friend, Kafka the Koffing. We also caught a Pidgeotto on the way to Ecruteak, but who cares about that?

Okay so, Blue just knocked my Charmeleon the fuck out at SS Anne, leaving me with a level 27 Pidgeotto and a level 27 Golbat.

Neither of them can learn Cut, and due to Nuzlocke rules I can't catch any pokemon in grassy areas or caves I've already been to, which is pretty much everywhere.

I still have 2 living pokemon but I can't progress through the game.

I did a runthrought of Leaf Green last year where I only used Pokemon I hadn't used in a story runthrough before. IRC my team consisted of Marowak, Venusaur, Primeape, Aerodactyl, Poliwrath and Dragonite. It was also the first time I started nicknaming my pokemon, needless to say I got a lot of new bros out of doing it.

Getting near the tail end of my first Nuzlocke - just finished Victory Road on Y. Since this is only my first one, I have been using the exp share and Amie, but we all start somewhere.

So far, I've had three casualties - a Sandile I caught on route 9, fell while capturing an Axew in Connecting Caves, a Trapinch caught on route 13, switched to the front of the team to grind, first encounter was a higher-leveled Arena Trap Dugtrio, didn't even survive one battle, and Pierce the Bisharp (I've been allowing in-game trades if I managed to catch whatever is wanted, and got lucky on route 20 by encountering a Jigglypuff first shot), who tackled the entirety of Snowbelle Gym only to fall to Avalugg's crit hit Avalanche after it had already taken damage that turn. Sorry, Pierce.

My current team is Chesnaught, Aromatisse, Meowstic, Vaporeon (named Lucky, because goddamn route 10 was good to me), Dragalge, and Drifblim. They're fairly overlevelled (between 67 and 70), but again, first Nuzlocke, trying not to take too many chances.

Anywhere to go for low-risk grinding? Any area with ground- or water-types types at a high enough level would be good. Also are there any high-level teammates I can get in Kanto besides Snorlax? I have a few mid-30's I could grind up but if I could find someone here that'd be pretty awesome.

Well there's a difficulty scale of the standard games up in the OP.

Plat is generally accepted as one of the hardest, B2 Challenge and Black are up there as well, FR/LG are usually pretty easy, R/B/Y are annying because of the possible hax in the first games, and Emerald is usually pretty bad, up to you what you wanna play.

Feel like doing a randomized run, so I'm going to go with black for a nice, large collection. Here's my settings:

Starters -> Random with 2 evolutions
Remove trade evolutions (if I start with a Machop, I'd like to be able to use Machamp)
Trainer pokemon -> Completely random, but don't use legendaries. Also no early Shedinja
Wild pokemon -> Area 1 to 1 mapping, catch 'em all mode, no legendaries, time based encounters
Static pokemon -> Random, replacing legends with legends and non-legends with non-legends

Seem reasonable for a fun Nuzlocke run? What can I add onto this? I don't want to attempt a no pokecenter run or something like that because it's black, but something to spice it up maybe might be cool.

All the trainers in the game have hardly any Pokemon so your team of 6 should destroy almost anything.
Only a few trainers/places in the game to look out for but otherwise, it's the easiest Pokemon game to nuzlocke.

I'm quite happy with this team so far. Hati having access to Play Rough this early is really nice. Maybe not in regards to its type, because lel no Dark, Dragon or Fighting Pokémon around, but its high BP makes up for it.
Starfire hasn't been in too many battles because of her bug weakness and, even though she's hasty, low speed. I'm curious how she'll develop in the team, since I never used an Elgyem before.
Azula is basically the Outrage Button for low level derps. Dragon Rage oneshots everything and I try to not use it in trainer battles.
Firen being a Fire type has a clear advantage in the beginning of the game. I kept him low level for the gym, because I knew even if he was underleveled he'd still beable to 2-hit-K.O. most of the things there.
Hylinda and Guardia gave me the most trouble. Hylinda isn't as strong as the other team members, but Supersonic kind of makes up for it. I'm sure she'll be my ace for the E4 though. Guardia had no moves until level 6, and even then I didn't really use her because most things around were bugs.

Will head to Luminose now.

Her Alakazam was just too powerful for me, to the point that it could land Psychic hits that did more than 1/3rd of my Snorlax's total HP and was faster than all of my other Pokemon, including a level 40 Golbat.

Vaporeon died first, receiving a Psychic in hopes I could outpace Alakazam with Cootie the Golbat and land a Confuse Ray+Attract, but before Vaporeon died the Alakazam set up a future sight.

Cootie the Golbat was outpaced by Alakazam and received a super effective Psychic powered by Calm Mind, she never stood a chance.

Farfetch'd found himself on the receiving end of Alakazam's Future Sight.

Snorlax couldn't withstand Alakazam's incredibly powerful Psychics

I had a Lapras in storage, but nuzlocke runs are clear, white out = game over

I'm doing a Platinum Nuzlocke right now. I'm at Hearthrome city, and I have a problem: I don't know how I can beat Fantina. Here is my team:

Eggseqtion the Togetic: lvl 27
Kappa the Psyduck: lvl 25
Advent the Onix: lvl 23
Mojo Jojo the Monferno: lvl 23
Swami the Meditite: lvl 20
Turdley the Bidoof: lvl 12

Her Mismagius just seems like it will wreck my entire team. Psybeam kills Monferno, Magical Leaf kills Psyduck and Onix, and if I try to use Meditite, then it will get murdered by shadow ball. Nothing in my box seems like it stands a chance either, and I'm out of catches everywhere. The only pokemon I have that won't die to it is Togetic, but the problem is that I don't have a way to hurt it. It's immune to return, and there aren't any TMs that I can teach it that will help except for Grass Knot, which only has 20 BP against it. Togekiss doesn't learn any damaging moves until level 33, where it learns Ancientpower.

So, here are my options, from what I can see:
-grind togetic to level 33 and teach it Ancientpower
-try and win now with a combination of Yawn, Sweet Kiss, and Metronome
-try and use something from my pc to kill it
-grind one of my other pokemon

For reference, in my PC I have 2 Zubats, a Starly, 2 Geodudes, a Shellos, a Machop, and another Bidoof.

Wat do?

Staraptor is a great Pokemon to Nuzlocke with due to its availabilty, Attack, Speed and Intimidate. If Golbat dies, then Staravia/raptor would be a great choice.

WELP. Mojo Jojo just died to a Geodude's Selfdestruct. From a trainer I was fighting with the Vs Seeker on Route 207.

UPDATE: I beat Fantina. Togetic demolished Mismagius (Psybeam only did 11 damage per hit, lol). Unfortunately, Kappa the Psyduck died to a gym trainer's Haunter. Also, I evolved one of my Zubats for the gym.

NO PARENTS the Golbat: Lvl 22

Everything else in my party and box is shit. Now I get to go catch a bunch more Pokemon though.

Had to take a little break. Still got some Victory Road ahead on my X nuzlocke, and it's becoming painfully clear how much more difficult this final journey will be. NPC trainers seem to have tons of fighting types, while all my psychic/flying hitters have generally speed lowering natures, and physically tanky mons have horrible fighting weaknesses...
Lost my trusty Vileplume Maya, and almost my rookie Aggron Luna on the way but we will push through the road and league, with any means necessary.

Today started good. Evolved Daisy, finished getting everyone ready for the gym, got a birthday surprise at the Pokécenter, but then it got bad...

Just as I finished training my team, half of it dies... I'll only train one, for now. I won't use Lucas because I already have a fighting type and it's not even proud of it's power. If I don't get anything good in the next few routes by the time Bara is around level 30, I guess I'll use Guts.

And another one bites the dust, decided to try the first level of Black Tower to get some free levels for Grayson and found it easy, all the trainers were 56-59, so thought that the Boss would be around there.

I was wrong.

Bam, out comes the level 78 Carracosta against Grayson, so I swapped him out for Narco, who got hit with a crit Stone Edge and taken down to red HP, healed her up and bam, theres the Shell Smash. So I'm sitting there, looking at a +2 Carracosta, and take a gamble on the Stone Edge not killing her.

Crit. RIP Narco.

So I swept the rest of his team with my team, placed her in the graveyard, and withdrew Oriana the Clamperl and evolved her into a Huntail. Gotta go grind Grayson and Oriana up some place where I won't have to worry abot getting crit again.

Well, I just got fucking raped by Munchlax, so it's over. I had pretty bad luck with the Pokemon I got though. Purrloin, Tyrogue(who doesn't learn a single fucking fighting move), and Meowth. Even with a level 16 Contrary Snivy I still got my shit pushed in.

I'd had another run before that with BB2 a long time ago that went pretty well and I made kinda far, but the save got wiped.

Ah well. Time to move on.

Oh man, if you'd leveled up you're Snivy one more level it would have had Dragon Rage and thats pretty much the win button at low levels. And Tyrogue is meant to have fighting moves but the creator stuffed up somewhere and forgot to add them to its level up moves.

This run I'm doing now is the first time i made it to the Elite 4 on a non Vanilla rom.

Yeah, Challenge is a new breed of hard. I find I usually have to evolve my starter before Cheren to simply make it through, unless I get a good natured catch along the way (Sniper Beedrill, Technician Furret, Riolu, Bagon)

Just started a Y one. Here's an update to join the rest of the fancy pictures. Currently levelling everyone else up bar Froakie near Santalune City. A shame about Bloom - really should have switched to Kunoichi instead, but after a Leer, I anticipated another Tackle, not an Ember. Something Bloom could sponge just to get some experience.

Regardless, I continue on with four - and Autumn, despite the nature, will be a great Bug if he lasts long enough to become Mothim.

Gaining Hindenburg has greatly offset my loss, but goddamn it sucked losing Bulbasaur so early. Fuck Vice Grip. And one level away from Ivysaur, too, no less...a damn shame.

But a Nuzlocker's duty is to soldier on - with Drifloon in hand, I have a near perfect counter to almost any Fighting types I'll face in the near future, and I can only hope the Glittering Cave will offer me a similarly good addition.

Well, just Ember them both to death. May be not very effective, but on the plus side, neither Geodude nor Onix have Rock moves, and the only thing that can really hurt you is Bide. And you can easily while away that by using Growl or something.

One more status update.

On the plus side, I've gotten Mothim, and he's already proving himself to be pretty nifty. A slight shame his Hidden Power was Flying when I was hoping for a little more diversity, but it serves as a good STAB move until I can get my hands on Aerial Ace or Acrobatics.

On the other hand...lost another one. Lola, no less, my first capture, one level before evolution like Tank before her. I took too much of a bargain with that Tourist's Azumarill on Route 10 and paid the price. She paved the way for victory, though - that much she did, at least.

For the while, I've added a Sandile I caught on Route 9 to the team. Again, not the best of natures, but in Sandile's case, attack is what matters, and that's unaffected. As shown, though, I do have a Jolteon lying in my box...and seeing how I don't have a Water counter still, that option is looking quite enticing.

Just finished the first leg of my Nuzlocke journey to save the Pokemon from my friend's old Leaf Green cartridge. My goal is to Nuzlocke through Diamond (which is practically a blind run since I haven't played since it came out) and Black 2 (completely blind run, never played before), so that I can transfer them safely into the Pokemon Bank.

There's no reason for this, I just wasn't finding motivation to play Pokemon and thought it would be fun. So far it is.
