I was not talking in the specific, and I still consider Crabhammer a signature move that only crustacean pokemon can learn.
But moves like Icicle Spear, Pay Day and Weather Ball were ruined and deprived of their original flavour.

Ok, yeah, Shellder was the only level-up learner until Vanillite came along. But its evolutions are basically made up of what Icicle Spear is all about, it would have been way worse lore-wise to not hgive it to them. And they STILL only learn it via Heart Scale, which I wouldn't count as traditional level-up as well, because tbh it might have just been a move tutor for all the player is concerned...

Yeah but I think what the anon meant was that Meowth learned it through level-up. Same way that Softboiled was supposed to only be learnable as a TM by Chansey but Mew could learn it and in Gen III Togetic could learn it too.
