my first ever shiny was a lugia back in crystal, i was a stupid kid and accidentally killed it with a crit surf. Took me over 10 years to find my second shiny, a suicude basculin in b2. At least that one I captured

if pokecheck is green its very likely to pass. Most edits from games that are not completly new romhacks make valid pokemon

One more for the road, since it's late as shit here.

Not much having gone on since Lola's loss. Boxed Vitani for the while, training up AC/DC because it's always nice having an Electric type for the Water and Flying 'Mons ahead, especially Flare's Golbats. The next Electric 'Mon I can get my hands on is Pachirisu, and while I won't mind having one of those, an immediate solution before discovering a later 'Mon is a good course of action. Team's coming together very nicely.

Alright /vp/, I want some help on a decision. I'm happy with myself with not losing anyone yet, and I'm happy with my team, however, I'm afraid York might become deadweight in the future. I know he'll evolve in this P/S patch I'm using, however, I imagine it's in another ten levels. I don't see him being much use against Tate and Lisa, nor do I see him being decent against Juan. Picture related is my box, I also have the claw fossil, forgot to revive it, so that's also an option. Should I replace York the machoke with someone else?

I edit some myself, added the star myself. I don't think there's any icons with the shiny sprites because shinies don't show as icons, and was just gonna edit the pictures I use when I add them to my team.

I thought Kunoichi, even as a Frogadier, would have just enough defences to tank Rock Tomb when Grant's Tyrunt was in the red, but evidently I was mistaken. Sending Hindenburg or Autumn out in her place in the wake of a Rock Tomb would have been suicide, Po was almost dead from a Stomp paraflinch, and it occurred to me all too late that Sandile resisted Rock. You pay the price for your mistakes.

Losing my goddamn starter couldn't have been more bitter, but my grim optimism paid off when I first entered the cave. My luck in Reflection Cave could not have been better - Sableye is an immediate addition to my team in the wake of Kunoichi's loss. Keen Eye would have been a hell of a lot better stall, but beggars can't be choosers.

It's a hard hit to take...but I have no choice but to keep on trucking.

I just wiped to Colress in BB2. My team was Niggress the Arcanine, Scarecrow the Cacnea, Beauty the Finneon, and Paul the Swalot. Not the most impressive team but I loved em. I know with Arcanine vs Colress I should git gud but screw his paralysis.

Just started another emerald omega run so I have something to do between classes. Picked phanpy as my starter and got poochyena as my first catch. Gonna train both of em to level 6 or 7 for the first rival battle.

Autumn fell to a lucky crit Retaliate at the hands of a Sawk in Reflection Cave. His demise was swiftly avenged, but with his passing, another of my earliest companions joins the departed...and of my first partners, only two remain.

But optimism doesn't fade - Sableye is proving herself to be wonderful - never used a Sableye before period, and my respect for it is most certainly there. In addition, in a rare instance born of necessity, two new Pokemon have joined on the same route. One's a Pachirisu which I may experiment with if only for Jolteon's discomforting lack of Electric moves that'll remain that way until at least Clemont, and the other is a Slowpoke, caught for a Surf slave. I'm aware of the Lapras giveaway, but there'll be plenty of Water-type options in Azure Bay.

Currently just grinding. Not the best, but still going strong.

Different people have different variations.

Some go by just searching for the next Pokemon you haven't caught if you keep turning up doubles, others go by having a set number of chances and then leaving it be.

Just steamrolled Brendan's team. Got to set up +6 attack on Poochyena against his Lotad. The only pokemon I didn't one shot was his cacnea which almost killed me cause I missed and he crit. Caught a Rattata and a Ralts on the next 2 routes.

I'm Nuzlocking through Diamond and Black 2 to transfer Pokemon from my friend's old Leaf Green cartridge up to PokeBank.

So far it's been pretty easy. Only got worried against Roark's Cranidos. Did a lot more damage than I thought it would. Luckily Roark's move choice was less than stellar and I got away with no casualties. If he had used more Headbutt and less Pursuit it would have been over.

Now I'm gonna focus on training everyone up to around the same level.

I've never tried a Nuzlocke run before, and I have a few questions, plus a problem I'm not sure how to resolve. For context, I'm only using the two basic rules, "release if faint" and "can only catch first pokemon in an area".

For rule#2, are fishing, surfing, and tall grass treated as separate "areas", or are they all part of the same area? This thought was brought on by this: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Hoenn_Route_103#Pok.C3.A9mon . In this area, surfing on the water is something that is done very much later in the game, so the levels of pokemon are higher. This shows that, for all intents and purposes besides the official route name, it is a different area. Does this count as a different area? Do all surf/fish/grass areas count as separate?

When there are multiple water routes connected by water (as occurs in Hoenn a lot), is each "route by name" treated as separate or the same?

Lastly, I caught a Lotad in route 102, but I was stupid and it died. (I really like lotad, and felt lucky I was able to catch one, too). I went to the PC to release it, but it wouldn't let me. It said that my lotad was worried about me. Is it dead, or do I take this as a sign that my lotad isn't dead?

When a pokemon faints and is the only pokemon that knows a certain HM, it can't be released. What do I do if this situation occurs?

What if I never manage to catch certain pokemon required for certain HMs that are needed to progress?

I think hm slaves are fine for necessary hms, not hms like flash or fly.
the route issue is for you to decide, I'm personally treating all areas with both grass and surf encounters as a single area and the large ocean as a single area as well.

S.S. Anne was not kind. Immediately lost Rise to a crit, after having just grinded her up to 21. Shame, I was really counting on her to be a powerful ally, especially against Surge.

Brought in Kinshiro, and he's already proving himself a powerhouse. Magnitude has yet to go in for less than 8, and often hits for 10. OHKOs everywhere.

Gonna try to grind up a few levels, and decide who to give cut to. Then I'll see what surge can do... (Surge demolished me last time I attempted this, so not looking forward to that)

I've learned one of two things today - either that I let recklessness get the better of me sometimes, or that I truly am cursed when it comes to Fighting types.

Po fell today, locked in combat with Calem's Absol. With it already weakened by a Vital Throw and Po being outsped anyway, I looked for one last throw to finish the job; Po was at good enough health, and his Lax nature helped his Defense some.

My luck often turns bad, though, and it just so happened that Absol struck with a crit Slash, goddamn Super Luck, felling Po before he could strike the final blow.

Drifblim mopped up, and in so doing I learned the wonders of Stockpile. The Gym was a welcome change of pace, and with Drifblim and Sableye in hand I shut down almost everyone there, even weathering Drifblim's weakness to Rock through Stockpiling. A brief respite.

I did the whole Tower of Mastery bit and opted to take Lucario with me - after all, he's an incredibly potent force against a great many types, and having lost Po, it was only logical.

And then, scarcely a level into having him, riding off a Power-Up Punch that I was sure would faint it, a trainer's Zangoose returned the favor with a crit Revenge. Fate really bites sometimes.

Even with such a staggering loss, I soldier on - I've acquired a Trapinch from Route 13 and both a Chinchou and Mantyke from Shalour City and Azure Bay respectively, welcome additions to a team desperately needing a Water type. I may have to revisit Shalour to catch a Remoraid if only out of necessity, but that will come later. For now, ahead of Ramos and another battle against Calem, the training begins again.

Also, Bozo's level was 25, not 23. Corrected that.

All-female team currently, too, I guess. Little things worth mentioning.

I finished one recently. Wonder-traded all gift pokemon except for my starter. Ended up losing my team on the final Calem battle. I ended up training 6 pokemon from level 16 to about 65. Won the nuzlocke without anymore deaths after that. Team was ampharos, scizor, golurk, noctowl, amoongus, and a shiny golduck. Ampharos was the mvp throughout the elite four and pretty much carried me to my first nuzlocke victory. Also I didnt use megas.

I found training 2-3 Pokemon to be very easy - you outlevel trainers and leaders and hardly lose any Pokemon during your run. On the other hand, training 6 Pokemon at the same time usually leads to a fuckton of deaths.

Shift makes the game very easy - you kill each enemy with a one shot super-effective move. Set on the other hand makes you rely on your "carry" pokemon too much (the ones who are strongest and can handle the hit after switching in) and makes them a high level. Kind of ruins the point of training the shitmons if you can kill everything with your powerhouse.

Did anyone find a way to nuzlocke in a balanced way, to make it fun and at the same time challenging for an experienced player?

When it comes to leveling I usually raise about 6-8 pokemon evenly. This way I have a couple on back up just in case I lose one of my best. I don't spend too much time grinding (not higher level than the next Gym Leader) but I grind what I need to keep my team about even.

As for the VS seeker, no, I don't use it until its time for elite four training.

I think the use of items is fine because they use your turn and give you opponent a free hit. Gym Leaders and Elite Four members do it so it doesn't seem too unfair for me to as well.

Shift is way too easy. I get your point about relying on your best to tank hits on set but shift essentially give you type advantage over every enemy in the game, significantly reducing difficulty. Really you're better off just battling weaker wild pokemon to level your team out.

Something I do for Gym Leader battles is limit myself to 3 pokemon. Even if they have less or more, I only use 3.

Gonna give BB2 another try. Farthest I got was yesterday was the bug gym guy. I had a level 29 quilava and got cocky so I didn't grind. Made it to the scyther before it used that flying gem wing attack which crit and took him out. Hitmonchan stood no chance and my starter was grass so it got fucked.

Mantyke is full of surprises, and clearing Ramos' Gym was a relative breeze compared to past matches, especially the encounter with Calem before entering; Absol consistently reminds me that I really need a proper Dark counter. Throh's there, but his nature is Modest...still, you take what you can get. I'm just glad I didn't lose anybody - everyone pulled their weight.

Croc's nearing her final evolution, meanwhile. I may catch an evolution-bait Remoraid sooner or later, and Vitani has finally blossomed into Pyroar, and I'm immensely pleased with the results.

The Power Plant looms. That may be a bit challenging for a lack of a Dark counter, but I do have solid Flying and Poison counters around. Clemont lies beyond that, and provided Vitani and Croc are still around, it should be a breeze.

It's the Calem encounter after that that I'm worried about.

in case you are not aware, Expert Emerald is a really fun hack but later on a lot of trainers have REALLY illegal movesets (as in, TM's you can't even teach your mons in the hack) ,such as Swords Dance MACHAMP. Snoopy has edited it to take out a bit of the bullshit though the game is still really hard. He also added a physical special split

I played once where I could use revives, but I HAD to use them on the very first turn after my Pokemon got KO'd. Sorta like defibrillators.
Also, I obviously could only use ones I found, no buying.
You really don't find that many in HG/SS.

Six badges were obtained today, but not without a heavy loss and a blow most grave.

I had dreaded Valerie's Sylveon from the start, suspecting that it may well claim the life of one of my companions, and my suspicions were correct - Hindenburg fell in battle today.

Vitani had just tanked a monstrously powerful Psychic off of Valerie's Mr. Mime, and with Light Screen up, I couldn't hope for a 2HKO with Flamethrower as I'd planned. Knowing that another Psychic would kill her stone dead, and knowing that Croc, despite her overwhelming physical attack stat, could very well have been outsped because of her nature and Gleamed post-switch, I sent in Drifblim, who tanked yet another Psychic and finished Mr. Mime with Fly.

Then Sylveon made his entrance, and I was in trouble. Excluding Conker and Croc and 'Burg's Fly, all of my 'Mons were special attackers - and Conker's attack, while serviceable, is not monstrous. I also knew that whatever I switched to would be hit with a Gleam full force. It was Morton's Fork - either I let Drifblim do as much damage as possible, or I switch and lock myself into a desperate attempt to keep everyone alive.

Hindenburg took to the sky one last time, and took almost half of Sylveon's health down with her. I switched into Vitani to do a little more damage with Flamethrower, and she soldiered two Swifts and landed in the red. I then gambled, switching to Croc knowing that she outsped him, hoping he would Swift again instead of Gleam.

My hope paid off, and one Dig was all that was needed.

Lazuli, briefly boxed, has returned to the team in the wake of what has happened. I recently acquired a Karrablast on Route 14, too, but only so recently evolved it - I had to find a Shelmet on my X, and I entered the gym confident that I could win without her.

I did...but at a price. The humanity, indeed.

Farewell, Hindenburg. You'll be missed.

Oriana went down first to a critical Thuderpunch from his Sudowoodo, then Ackbar gets slapped with a crit Scald from his Politoed, and to finish it off Gorge gets taken down by his Ambipom, with a Normal Gem Fake out to Critical U-turn.

Never done a Nuzlocke challenge before, which game do you guys think is the best for my first attempt?

Only recently got back into Pokemon with X/Y, befoore that I had only played Gens 1 and 2, and a little of Gen 5. I'm most familiar with Gen 1, so it'd probably be safest to go the Red/Blue route. Don't think it's smart to do a blind Nuzlocke of Gen 3 or 4...

Just finished my X Nuzlocke. I only had one death the entire game. This is the first time it's happened to me. Usually I'm losing Pokemon left and right - and what makes it even weirder is that it was an egglocke, so I was raising all my Pokemon from level one.

I think it's just too easy to over-level in X, even without having to do a lot of grinding. Now I feel bad because I was going to do a comic for it and doesn't seem like it'll be exciting enough.

You could always re-do it.

Not that I'm judging you, but if you do things like constantly leave the Exp. Share on and the like, the game becomes noticeably easier. If you strive to keep your 'Mons around or even a little under the levels of opposing trainers, bosses and Gym leaders, it's actually somewhat challenging.

Anyone ever try that Pokemon Randomizer with a hack like Sacred Gold and Storm Silver? I love Dray's hacks and changes to stats and movepools to make some Pokemon much more viable top fucking percentage Meowth!. Might be fun to Nuzlocke one of his hacks with the randomizer.

Yeah, that's what I do. Chances are you'll bump into a Pidgey or Rattata in that small section before Viridian Forest anyway.

Don't forget to go west out of Viridian City to Route 22 and try your luck and see if you can't get a Mankey.

Started my first Nuzlocke yesterday on yellow, because of muh TPP and having not played past gen 2 before. Stopped for the night after making my Mt Moon catch. Planning to take the gift starters (as my catch for their routes/towns) but only use them if I'm out of other options, since they're played out.

Is it a good idea to evolve my nidorans immediately? If I delay their evolutions into nidorina/o by a level they get poison sting, but it's not exactly a spectacular move.

I should go back and do a Nuzlocke for each of the games except Gen 3 because I'd be going in blind, and blind nuzlockes are a terrifying idea

Murkrow, Pumpkaboo and Litwick are captures that I can very well experiment with, and Bergmite, now Avalugg, is already in my team, taking Lazuli's place. Wondering about what I'll get in the routes ahead, but I have to clear out the cavern first.

And as much as I have admired her unquestionable usefulness, I'm unsure about how much longer Conker may be able to stay on. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, though.

Conker fell in battle against a Snover on Route 16. Trying to play the paralysis game to have two 'Mons level up at once...didn't go so well. The plucky Pikaclone made it far, though, and her services will not be forgotten.

With her, though, goes my one reliable Water counter. Having snagged a Snover of my own, along with Pumpkaboo, there are readily available options, and I am seriously considering adding either Ignis or Capone to my team to have a more effective Fighting counter - Kite's Air Slashes can only do so much, and the fighters in the Frost Cavern gave me hell, Mienshao especially.

I'll mull over my options. Till then, here's to another fallen friend.

Dougette might've been able to carry me through Surge's gym if she had more than 10 base HP.

Unfortunately a critical quick attack from Raichu brought her down to 2hp in the first turn. After the first switch Raichu spammed double team and shock wave until a lucky burn from Lipton stalled Surge for one turn as he used a full heal, which led to a follow up ember to finish it.

Luckily there were no casualties, but we now have to traverse the dreaded Rock Tunnel.

Yeah one of the guys in JLT's stream changed it back to that but left everything else same type and added more moves and crud, made the movesets similar and I think a bit of stat editing, to make itsimilar to BB2/SacredGold

Alaska fell in Lysandre Labs to a Spit Up from a Swalot, of all things. Cut it close, but he edged out. I still haven't cleared it, either - most of the grunts and scientists are done with, but Alaska's loss convinced me to withdraw and take stock after mopping up.

Unfortunate though this may be, this does leave openings. Kabocha and Capone are in as a Water counter and more offensive Fighting counter if I decide to take an unused 'Mon from my box and power through Super Training to get a Dusk Stone from one of the extra regimens, and I am entertaining the thought of benching Kite for a while and training up Lux, who is the only Pokemon I have that can potentially deal with standard Gyarados very quickly. Mega may actually be handled more easily.

I'll see what I can do. But even though her time was brief, Avalugg will be remembered. Walled Iron Heads and took out Gyarados like a champion. RIP.
