>>18258988The fact that it resists Fighting, Dark, and Bug in tandem with being immune to Dragon make it slightly OP defensively. On top of that, two of its premier Pokemon, Azumarill and Klefki, both have resists/immunities to Fairy's only two weakness respectively.
Offensively, Fairy has incredible utility. Not only can it tank entire sets on Pokemon it usually would want to switch into, it can also do significant damage back if they elect to stay in. STAB Fairy hits plenty of things for neutral damage, meaning the switch will likely take quite a bit of damage from a Moonblast or Play Rough if they elect to try to counter.
Finally, they play the role of cleric extremely well. Clefable is a force to be reckoned with, and Sylveon can be equally potent... and we all know how effective Prankster Klefki can be.
So, overall, I'd say that GF tried to make a type that'd get people excited to use, and probably made it a little too good. The mons that can actually make use of it are fairly limited at this point, but they obviously gave it to things that'd make us see its true potential. I can imagine future Fairy pokes won't be as good by obvious design. I suspect them to make their designs a little more natural, and develop a few more Pokes/moves/abilities that can counter them.
>tl;dr - fairy is an incredibly good type, is probably op, and, all things considered, may even be the best type overall
