Saying something is a JRPG isn't an excuse for a shitty story. Most JRPGs are terribly written. The first two Pokemon games at least avoid that shitty pratfall of most JRPGs, and stick mostly to a story of a kid training to be the pokemon trainer (while also stopping a gang along the way).

Just now? The three dogs are essentially regional protector deities, and that's gen2. Gen1 barely had a story besides team rocket + mewtwo.

Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, The genies, the dogs, probably the birds.. they're all 'deities' of their regions. It isn't like Arceus, Yveltal and deer can't be captured in an ultra ball, or that they can't faint.

tl;dr they're still pokemon, and where the fuck do you draw a distinction?

Honestly Groudon/Kyogre were already pretty god-like in terms of power, since they represent land and sea respectively, but the nice thing was that you got to see it in the actual game, as in you actually see the drought/flood and shit flying out of control. The closest thing since then has been Giratina's parallel dimension. Some of them it's not even really possible to make them part of the story because they're so stupidly overpowered lore-wise.

Groudon and Kyogre caused a Drought and Flood respectively, but it was pretty much limited to Hoenn as far as we can tell, and was definitely a very slow way to "create land" or "expand ocean". Palkia and Dialga can definitely come out of nowhere, but by no means have we seen them have full control over Time and Space, outside of some casual time travel (which humans have semi-canonically figured out how to do on their own). Arceus has created an egg out of nothing, but by no means do we have proof he created an entire reality out of nothing.

Yveltal, Xerneas? We've not seen any mass extinction or revivals or any bullshit from them. Closest was the Kalos catastrophe and that was cause AZ fired off one hellofa weapon, not some godmon.

There's no proof these so called Godmons really carry that much power. Highly powerful, sure. But their deification is unfounded. It's practically cult-level really.

Since Gen 5 the legendaries have felt kind of obligatory to me. It was pretty obvious what Groudon and Kyogre did, and Gen 4 was difficult to actually show in game since its implied they created fucking everything, but with Gen 5 it was really abstract and with Gen 6 I didn't even remember what they represented before looking it up again.

I guess we could just think that the legends are just that, legends. Nobody ever really confirmed they were 100% true.

Gen 1 had the story of a young boy leaving home to travel the entire world, challenge the best trainers of certain cities to collect proof of his conquest, and eventually thwarting an entire criminal organization and becoming recognized as the strongest trainer in the entire world after overcoming 4 absolute masters of their type.

If that doesn't sound like a story to you, it's probably because you're so used to it. They used it a couple more times after that. Like in every single main series game since.

I usually enjoy the story of Pokémon, but X&Y seemed too childish because of your group of friends (I'm fine with the childishness of the other games). I don't have too much trouble with the legendaries stuff, but well, I would be cool to see a new way to tell the story that doesn't rely on the legendaries.

I like the Unown (they are part of a legend, although not legendary) and Braille-Regi stuff because it is mysterious, somewhat scary and not fully explained.

Being forced to catch them isn't terrible (I would catch them anyways), but I don't like to use them on my team.
