Some people are thinking the "Phantom Gate" trademark The Pokemon Company filed may be for a new PMD, since it's definitely something Pokemon and it's somewhat reminiscent of Gates.

Either way, since they don't have to worry about making a new engine and can recycle assets like they did for the Explorers games, the next one will most likely be better than Gates was. Probably not as good as Sky, but of course it won't since it won't be an updated re-release.

I doubt they'll make another for the 3DS, they can't shove the 3D gimmick in, and the 3D models just wouldn't work very well with it's perspective.

especially since most of the game revolves around activity in the bottom screen

they couldn't possibly fit 3d in anywhere, and having a useless, yet plausible 3d gimmick is a requirement to have a 3ds game

maybe it could have a wiiu release

but the shadow pokemon story is more or less concluded

shoehorning another reason for there to be shadow pokemon would be nothing short of dumb and arrogant

Pretty much. There's not a whole lot more they can do with the plot and region. I liked the Shadow Pokemon mechanics, but they'd need some real justification for bringing them back.

The plot in Gates was better, and it still wasn't anything special. The only thing Sky has going for it are the special episodes.

Gates of Infinity tanked hard, and it was shredded by the critics. If much Japan migh get some low budget games like the Wii Mystery Dungeon and that's it.

Aside from not being a torture to play you mean. I tried GtI; the plot was nice, but it was so painful to play that I didn't bother to reach the conclusion of the game. The music were nice though.
