Not really, you're required to get either the Helix or Dome fossil in Gen 1.

I'm not quite sure what the most forgettable Gen 1 Pokemon is. Doduo, maybe?

Come to think of it, Gen III's additions were all memorable in one way or another. They had interesting/unique gimmicks, odd niches in competitive play, or some other use (like Gulpin for HP EV training) that would leave you aware of them.

Barboach and Whiscash are the only ones whom I truly forget as soon as they're out of my short-term memory.

There tends to be a point where a pokemon becomes so forgettable that it's remembered for being forgettable

this is probably the most forgettable pokemon in my book but I can't think of anything that doesn't meet the above criteria: forgettable but not known for being forgettable and thus being the most forgettable

Parasect is very memorable in many ways. Besides being Gen I and having a unique typing for a long time, there are its two (three in Gen 1) 4x weaknesses, its once exclusive access to Spore, and the whole parasite mushroom taking over the insect host thing.

It's gen II you clod.

A lot of the time people actually remember forgettable pokemon just because they are forgettable. Because of this, Qwilfish, corsola, and huntail are actually memorable because they are forgettable.

The only really forgettable pokemon, in my opinion, are Tangela (even with Tangrowth), Stantler, Grumpig, Mothim, Lumineon and Maractus.

Plus Barboach and Whiscash. Fully half of the evolutionary families capable of learning Dragon Dance aren't Dragon types.

Sometimes I feel like Spearow is pretty forgotten as an individual Pokemon. It's either lumped in with the regional birds or shows up as an "also-ran" in early-season anime discussions. Hell, sometimes it doesn't even get that.

OP's crazy. Not only is Omanyte a gen 1 Pokemon, not only did it and Kabuto start the whole "fossil pair" trend, but you have to pick up the Helix or Dome fossil to even progress in the game.

These guys are truly forgettable, and that's an achievement when they're Gen 1 Pokemon. Only Goldeen and Seaking come close, and at least Goldeen was in the anime. Hell, Seel and Dewgong are probably the only gen 1 Pokemon that got more memorable substitutes in later generations (the Spheal line).
