as far as I know, one parent with HA is enough to pass it on, but iirc females have better odds of passing HA than males. not sure of odds if both parents have HA

Let's say you're breeding Swirlix with Raichu.

If you want the offspring to have a chance of being Swirlix with HA, then the mother needs to be a Swirlix or Slurpuff with the HA. If you're breeding with a Ditto, then the Swirlix with the HA can be either male or female.

Whoops, read the question in OP wrong.

You can use two Swirlix with different abilities, but the female is the one that has to have the HA.

So say I'm looking for a Swirlix with Unburden. I would have to either trade or find a safari with the ability, correct? Because my wireless internet has been down indefinetley, and I really can't be hassled finding it in the wild with the HA. For as I've been looking in the same spot for at least four hours now, and it's pissing me off that I haven't found one yet.

You can only get the HA either through a trade or the Safari, yes. You can't find it in the wild, as only some Pokémon found in Horde Battles can have their HA and Swirlix aren't found in Hordes

You cannot encounter HA Pokémon in the wild unless they are in Hordes or the Safari.
