Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will shut down on the 20th of May 2014.

They do, but all DS and Wii games have to connect to the WFC before any secondary DNS. You can't connect to the internet at all if the WFC isn't running so you won't be able to use any online features even with a fake DNS server.

Either export the genned mons as AR codes, or insert them into a save file from a flashcart and then trade them to a retail cart.

Well, I only have one DS and no flashcart or AR, so I'm pretty much fucked.
One would think that a company as noble as nintendo would have the money to maintain a shitty server with no traffic infinitely.

I run PokeGTS.us. You 'visit the GTS', but it's actually connecting to my server. Unfortunately, the first bits where the DS pretends to authenticate and connect uses nintendo's servers, so I will have to figure out how to emulate some of the Nintendo Wifi Connection stuff as well.

You might still need to connect to WFC in the first place though.

Well, with something like this, an RSE remake is way more likely- now you can't really argue "you can just transfer stuff from gen 3" because it really will be impossible now.

Would prefer new games myself, but oh well.
