Finally Friday!

I'd like to share a short story /shw/.
I took a break from Ralts to hatch some Eevee earlier this week, and I was talking in chat about how much it'd suck if I hatched a shiny Eevee while IV breeding.

And just one or two eggs later, this little bastard pops up - while I was IV breeding. I was too busy enjoying the irony of it to be mad or even annoyed.

This little shit now lives with Liz.

On that note, I've hatched two other shiny Eevee since. Which brings me too...

One of the Eevees I hatched has imperfect Speed, but it's pretty high at 27, is it usable for that SubCM Sylveon set you suggested?

I'm also going for a SubPassing Vaporeon, would it work for that?

It should work fine on Sylveon. Speed is not so much of a concern when you're running a bulkier set, and 27 works just fine.

Depends, but usually what I do is toss the mons with abilities that I'm not looking for, and store the ones that do, even if they're not shiny

Finally after almost a month, I got a shone pink bunny. And it was a male! I'm so glad I didn't get a female I had to sacrifice to Masuda, then continue bike simulator 2014.

I tend to just hatch one at a time and run back and forth on route 7. It's the most efficient way, and I just release the baby and grab another egg. I've tried the 3-2-3-2-3 method listed in the FAQ, but I can never get it right, and always end up back at 1-1-1-1-1-1. And I tend to count each individual egg To kinda sorta do what smogon did. And because I like to keep exact statistics as to what box, what batch, and which egg I hatched when I hatched said shiny.

My first shiny caught was a mareep that I had been hunting for for a decade. Mareep-Flaffy-Ampharos is my favorite pokemon now and forever so that's the only shiny I absolutely need.

Now all I want is to hatch a good shiny froakie cause I just prefer the color scheme to the regular one when it becomes greninja.

Thank you! It's been 13 years, and thousands of attempts to get it right, but I finally have my Shiny owl back! I remember finding it in Gold. I was confused and thought the damn thing was MADE OF SOLID GOLD OR SOMETHING so I caught it and used it until my battery died.

Hi everyone, how's the hunt ?

Things are fun for me. A shiny Seviper, a shiny Wingull (my second one), and the beginning of the training of my 106 shinies (actually training Regice, Registeel, Rayquaza, Sceptile and Blaziken). IRL is rather tough, to compensate, and the french shiny community I'm in is crawling through tough times as well.

Good luck to everyone, and good job to all the recent shinies found. Also, I expect a new thread post right before mine.

I tried it earlier this week. Managed to breach 100 tries (I wanna say ~120), with encountering all 3 in a safari and a few more after, and I have yet to encounter a shiny in the friend safari at all. I guess it just works for everyone but me? ;u;

And what is it with everyone getting Shiny Wingulls in hordes recently? Why can't I be apart of the Wingull club?

Good job. 16 boxes is small considered to some numbers I've seen (people I know have broken the 300 boxes, and I've gotten my shiny Charmanders after 106 boxes), but it's the shiny that matters in the end.

I guess the only real way to test is stipulating a number of encounters and have one person have 10 encounters in a safari, then re-enter it untul reaching the amount and another person reach it without re-entering.

Try hordes, Masuda Method or Friend Safaris. Hordes have the higher rate (15/4096) but they're rather limited, and some pokes are hard to get. Friend Safaris offer more range and more powerful pokes, but we don't know the odds. Masuda Method is the slowest method, but the one who offers the most control on your pokes (IV, nature, breeding moves).

That's true. Some Pokemon "attack" differently depending on their size.

Steelix for example will ram their enemies with their teeth instead of eating them when they use Crunch or Bite, which explains why using Crunch on a smaller Pokemon wouldn't straight-up kill the thing.

I kind of want to get into hatching a shiny Protean Froakie (Gambit donated such a frog to me and I have a Japanese 6IVs Ditto) but I don't know how I should go about doing so. This is the first time I've seriously done shiny hunting - I've managed to Masuda a shiny Goomy and a shiny Noibat, but those were mostly autopilot. Is it okay practice to turn down the first egg (since it has locked stats) and hatch the next five and reset if there's no shiny?

(also what am I looking for on the Froakie? I don't want to accidentally miss it. At least the other things I plan to shiny hunt - Skiddo, Honedge, Inkay, and Helioptile - are easy to notice)

Well, first thing's first is make sure both parents are 6IV, that way there's a 1/6 chance of getting the desired IV spread and a 1/32 chance of getting a 6IV. What most people agree is most efficient is the method described in the FAQ at the top of the thread (collect 5 eggs, hatch 3, release them, collect 3 more, hatch 2, release them, continue). I prefer to collect 10-20 boxes filled with eggs and then hatch them whilst circling Prism Tower in Lumiose.

When it comes to the Froakie, you're looking for a slightly darker spot at the top of the head, but after hatching roughly 1000 regular Froaks you'll notice the paler one when it hatches. There'a also a red star on the summary screen to denote that it's shiny, and you can check the PokéDex entry for Froakie, as the shiny is listed as a "form" when you check appearance/cry.

Does anyone want to contribute by testing the safari theory?

We have to decide a total number of encounters to do, then one person has all the encounters in one safari without switching while the other finds 10 pokemon and re-enters it until all encounters have been made. Then we compare who got more shinies.

Who wants to help? I guess we should do 1000 encounters.
I find this more entertaining than hatching eggs.

oh right, the first Swanna I found was the first, or among the first, encounters in one of my safari entrances.
The next two Swanna, and the Tropius, were after spending a lot of time after entering the safari (each time was a separate entrance)

Not IVs, EVs.
Assuming you've got an Adamant nature and 252 IVs invested in your Attack stat, your Bouffalant will have an Attack stat of 172 at level 50. If it had 31 IVs in Attack then the Attack stat would've been 178 at level 50.

The current IVS aren't too much of an issue, going by the calcs.

Getting the Oval Charm and Shiny Charm would be a lot of help. I wouldn't use PokéCheck personally, but it's really up to you how you fill your Dex.

I'd recommend making a little list of the shinies you want to hunt with images from Serebii's PokéDex. It's a fun way to show what you're going for.

It's totally worth it. IIRC the Oval charm grants an extra 20% egg chance to the pair of parents, which could equal up to a 90% chance per cycle. The Shiny charm makes the rates for finding a shiny so much better. I don't think it matters to anyone else if you use pokecheck to complete it, as well. I would recommend using a paint file to keep track.

It's been a pretty eventful week, I finally got myself the /shw/ mascot, and shortly after a Charmeleon in Liz's safari with perfect Sp. Atk and Speed. Might use it as MegaZard Y for fun
