When I'm doing a playthrough, I catch whatever pokemon I want in my team and make sure it has a decent nature/right ability/right gender, if not, I reset it and try again until I do.

Ever since i've got into the nicknaming craze, I refuse to use foreign pokemon unless the OT nicknamed it.

If it's a pentaperfect, then I just everstone/destiny knot it until I have one of my own.

I only use premier balls.
I also do not use pokemon that I am not the OT of.
I have to fight every single trainer in the area and will not leave until I do.
I don't use potions or revives.
If I am a female trainer, I will reset the game until I get a female starter.
I have to have three back ups of each starter for trading purposes at all times.
At the start of the game I rename my boxes 001-030, 031-060, etc. change the backgrounds to match the feel of the specific region, and make boxes with legendaries the pokecenter background.

I do this too. I just can't do it, they don't feel like mine, especially if they're already nicknamed.

I always wished that they'd implement something where if you raise friendship/Amie friendship enough they'd allow you to change the name of a traded Pokemon at the very least.

In 4th gen, I arranged my boxes by national dex number and proceeded to attempt to get one of every new pokemon, placed in their proper position.
I put my Pokemon in my party in ascending level order at all times.
I refuse to buy most items "in case I need the money", and then typically waste most of it before the elite 4 buying 50+ hyper potions and revives.
I spend 30+ minutes trying to come up with nicnames for my Pokemon. I will actually put the game down and walk away to think about it.

Meh, not everyone plays competitively and would still like to enjoy using certain abilities and stuff in game just for fun.

My friend doesn't play competitively at all and I gave him a 5 IV Protean Froakie just to mess around with on his first playthrough and he had a blast with it.

If the color scheme doesn't match any pokeball, I make up an intricate explanation for how a certain pokeball fits that Pokemon.

In Gen IV, gender differences were introduced. The first time you encountered a Pokemon species, that specific instance was the one recorded in your dex as the default entry, and you couldn't change it as you can now. So, if the first Magikarp you saw was female, the dex entry would have white whiskers by default.

I went out of my way to ensure that the first Pokemon species I encountered matched the Sugimori art. So, if I ran into a Magikarp for the first time and it was female, fuck that--I'd reset and hope for a male.

But it was worse than just that.

There were NO gender differences, I'd insist on seeing a male first.

Thank god that's all a thing of the past now... but I'm not sure if I'm stuck with that hideous Spinda I encountered.

I have a Smeargle with various moves for shaking loose terrain items, Pickup Pokemon, and a Compound Eyes/Thief Pokemon. All of them are in Net Balls, as in harvesters who drag in their findings with a net.

Another Smeargle with the usual False Swipe et al moveset, a fleet of Abras with Synchronize for natures, a Mega-Alakazam with Trace for tracing abilities, and Bellossom with Sweet Scent, are all housed in Safari Balls, because they're used for hunting and catching specific Pokemon, and thus wear camo. I could have just used a Ralts for the Trace, but not, Mega Alakazam, because you can't catch any Ralts-line or Porygon-line Pokemon in a Safari Ball.

Happy Hour Smeargle is in a Luxury Ball because he lives large.

Oh, and every single one of these useful-in-game-only Pokemon is hexaperfect, EV trained, and at Level 100.

XY really spoiled me with the pokéball passing down through the mother though.
I didn't care about breeding until the moment it was discovered, and being able to get 5 IVs without RNG abuse or using pokégen was just an added perk.

Natures aren't only aesthetics though? I mean it is fucking obvious nobody would want to use Adamant for Shadow Ball spamming Aegislash, whereas the same nature is useful for Swords Dance Aegi or whatever. Not to mention physical / special require different IV spreads which only widens the difference.

For me, every individual member must be in a Pokeball that suits them, but also, that pokeball must make a good pattern when combined with the rest of the pokeballs of the team.
They're mostly either premier, dive, friend, dream and love, so it's not that hard to match, but regular pokeball are really becoming an eyesore (despite being the original thing)

i used to be obsessive about having all of my pokemon in pokeballs. i caught articuno, xerneas, zygarde, mewtwo in pokeballs easily. but i've relaxed. i like having cool balls now even if they dont match. like lucario in a dreamball, salamence in a luxury ball, klefki in a healball, scrafty in a premier ball. While it's obsessive to breed the perfect pokemon in the desired ball, i'm more erratic and disorganized than what you normally see from special ball trainers

Also when I breed pokemon I always put the female in the daycare, and then the male.
With tarantulas the male spider comes into the female's zone so they can breed, so I do then same with my pokemon. Female has to be earlier in the daycare. Yes.
