a) cyndaquil is the only real fire type option and
b) there are heaps of water type options superior to bitey mclardfat
whether a fire type is "needed" is completely irrelevant, feraligatr is even more redundant in game than he is in meta
don't let those facts upset you though, it won't matter either way when whatever they pick is released five minutes in and a weedle carries the game and then you can sit back and smugly nod, safe in the 'knowledge' that they'd have done better if they kept generic water type x
