Just don't expect Ash to catch everything he sees, and instead expect him to focus on catching what he wants and building his team for each region. He literally starts over in every region, save for Pikachu.

Also, just fucking skip Johto, or at least skip three quarters of it, because the last few episodes with the REAL Team Rocket is pretty cool.

Also just don't bother if you don't enjoy cartoonish light hearted stories.
